Led Headlights

Wow.... VERY interesting. I wonder if those would match my 6000K HIDs better than the Silverstar Ultra I'm currently running in the high beams....

I'm half tempted to try these out.

Yea they suck, dont waste your money on those. The headlamp housing with the LEDs do not project very well. Not sure if it is the design on the LED's or the housing. I bought a set for my highs and lows and there are sitting in the box in the garage. They are a waste. If you are still willing to try them. I'll sell you mine.

These are the ones I picked up to try

That would be more for DRLs than headlights.

+1. I didn't think LED technology was to the point where it could replace incandescents--in terms of brightness. I doubt that even a good cluster of ultrabrights would give you the same field of view as Silverstars. But I've been impressed before. I wouldn't hesitate to use the LED lights in my fogs or DRLs, however.

LEDs have a very narrow field of view, that field gets narrower as you go brighter from what I've seen in raw LED specs. They would be completely worthless in headlight applications at the current time, maybe in the future they will have the ability to replace headlight bulbs, but it's probably a ways off.

A lot of street lights, mainly the greens from what I've seen, have been changed over to LEDs but when you look at them, if they are a few years old, a dozen of the individual LEDs will be burned out due to over powering them. LEDs will last forever, if you don't over power them. So until we have some large changes in technology, they are only really useful for signal/background lights like the dash or turn signals.

I have those LED's on my DRL's and they look pretty good in the daytime with a really warm white color. Im in the process of swapping all the interior to LED at the moment. Cant find anything for that ugly instrument panel color though!

It's both the housing and the design of the LED's. I found this out with my dimly lit mustang in the tailights. If you put a replacement auto store LED 1157 bulb in it, it will actually be dimmer in most cases than stock because LED's arent able to utilize the reflector behind the light. Replace it with a circuit board full of LED's and the light is directed out correctly.

There is also a lot of crappy second rate LED lights out on the market and I suspect the ebay one is one of them.

Audi will be the first out with LED headlights shortly in a couple of their high end cars so I think it's ready for prime time, but i'll bet if we want to replace ours, the whole headlight housing should be replaced

What is it about LEDs that is desireable to all these guys switching their interior lights? I have them in my new Snugtop for a dome light and find them friggin irritating. The color is a cold blue and the light output stinks. If I wasn't so damn lazy, I'd toss them out and put in a halogen bulb fixture.

I agree... I like the increased light output from some of the high performance LEDs, but I wish they made some with a better color temp for interior viewing. Most of them are like being under crappy fluorescent lights.

I got a New Product announcement back a few months ago about a Truck-Lite replacement H6024 (aka 7 inch low/high sealed beam lamp). The lamp is being pointed towards truckers. Most of the stuff Truck-Lite has is good stuff so I assume (and we all know where that can get you) that the product is going to be good. Slight down fall is that they are 300 bucks each (could be a set its been a while since I saw that flyer) from the best I can remember.

I tried HID's and LOVED the brightness. But I could never seem to get both sides to work at the same time or even sometimes either side to work. That leads to quite the interesting experience driving down the interstate and both go out when you dim the lights. Over all I was quite dissipointed with them from them not working all the time. THEY are in a box in the top of my tool box in the shop. This is the kit I purchased same seller also. I put a relay kit on but still same thing happened.

theres no cheap good method for HID's in our trucks. i spent the money did it right and legal on a 03 sierra and it was one of the better mods ive done as far as drivability. i can see the deer allot easier before they try and bolt in front of me.

LED tech is coming out of the closet so to speak and theres going to be some good stuff in the near future but it will be a while before it can surpass a good HID install.

there lighting reef aquariums and growing coral under LED's right now but the price is almost 10x that of metal halide.
