You will need a special tool to remove the fan clutch. If you do not have the tool. You might look into buying a new clutch or you will end up getting the fan clutch taken off at a machine shop. If you buy the tool or have it... DO NOT Remove the belt till you have broke the nut a loose on the fan clutch it will make the removal of the fan clutch easier as it will keep the pulley from moving.

By the way a quality pump will come with the metal/oring gaskets such as the original used. If it has these DO NOT PUT PERMATEX on it as it can cause Oring seals to leak.

Easy change less than 2hrs if your just messing around drink a few and chatting with friends.

I simply removed the belt and ran a wire hanger through one of the small holes near the center of the pump pulley and wrapped it around the alternator bracket and secured it well. This kept the pulley from turning while I wrenched on the fan. I have removed my fan this way several times.

I just leave the belt on, put my extra-large crescent wrench on the clutch nut and give it a few good whacks with a hammer.

here is what I did..

removed the fan shroud.. remove belt, and drain coolant via radiator and lower rad hose @ the t-stat housing.

remove water pump with fan still on it.. place pump and fan on tailgate of the truck, and remove the back of the water pump.. take a screwdriver or a punch, and wedge it between the impellar and the pump body.. then remove the clutch fan.. reinstall the back of the pump if a core return is required..

Totally cool way. I will have to try it one time at least. Using the correct tools you need 3 hands and 6 legs in order to do remove the clutch...... I even went as far on the new pump to thread the holes in the pulley so I could thread a 5mm bolt in them to make the removal easier. The tool has 2 little pins you put in the holes in the pump and that holds the pulley so you can grab them with that special finger pincher tool.

Thanks everyone... Got my leaky pump replaced yesterday... The Fan Clutch was a biaaaaaatch. I rented the tool from Orielys but that didn't work a dam. So I used a long chisel and banged on it a few times and it broke loose. Spun it off and made a mess with the coolant-Then swapped out pumps and all was good. No leaks as of Today

Thanks again
