I posted this over in General/OffTopic yesterday, but I think it'd be cool in here too...

My GF, Brother and I went boggin Saturday. My girl rode shotgun, my brother took pictures.

I got sorta-stuck twice but with some fancy foot(and gearshift)work I got out both times.  It didn't help that my tires are not the least bit suited for mud, but it was still fun.

Those with low-speed connections be patient. There's 18 pictures at about 120-160kb a piece. Total of 2.5 mb.

SWEET PICTURES!!!!  Looks like so much fun!  you found a great spot there.

I think your not-so-mud-suited tires actually kept your truck cleaner.  I spent an evening with a big mud puddle, my old Suburban, a couple friends, and a cooler of beer, and it was a time I will never forget.  So much fun throwing that stuff around, engine roaring, truck plodding thru it.  I couldn't bring myself to wash the old beast for most of a week, it was great getting all the stares at stoplights, etc.

I recall nosing up to one puddle, and the headlights were pointed down at the waterline when I decided maybe I should go around rather than thru it.  No idea how deep it was, but it must have been bowl-shaped, because maybe halfway around, the passenger side started dropping, and water came in the door sills.  Nothing more throttle couldn't get us out of tho!!  Floored it and continued my route around the edge, the nose of the truck pointed skyward, big lumps of mud, like if you scooped some up in both hands, landing on the hood and windshield.  Pulled out of that puddle and just sat there laughing for a while.

I haven't had my pickup off road, since the inner fenders have rusted away up front.  No mud for a few months up here now, just snow.  Hoping to get my new inner & outer fenders on soon, and I should be ready to get dirty next spring if all goes well.

That sounds like you had a really good time too!   Although, beer and driving thru mud doesn't sound like they mix very well... :)

Thats a good point about the tires...  The truck is still dang dirty, and I havn't washed it yet... this is 5 days now.  I'd be willing to sacrifice having the truck even dirtyer to gain the performance of better tires.... I mean, when you go out bogging, your goal isn't to see how clean your truck is when you're done :D

I know how you feel about the snow, the day after I went out and took those pictures everything froze and the snow started falling, and there's still snow now.

I plan on taking it out again next spring too, during meltdown!  That'll be a freakin blast :P

I have the lowly 2WD suburban, I do have all buisness 31in mud tires on the rear.  I love having mud and grass hanging all over the place!  My wife likes it too!  I have a pretty tall rear end ratio, plus big tires, so I don't spin the tires a whole bunch.  Highway cruising isn't a problem though.  Unfortunately, I spend a lot more time on the road than off.  I is nice to know I can go through some reasonable slop with out too much fear.  I do know not to push it though!  A 2wd with an open differential can only do so much!

Too cool! I've done that a few times myself! I've got mud tires on the Jimmy, but that's not so much for the mud as much as it is for the rain around here. Sometimes we get some pretty nasty rain, and the mud tires work better in rain than the all-terrain tires do. (They shed water better.)

Speaking of mud, Aaron took the Jimmy somewhere yesterday and it came back almost as muddy as yours! :)
