Need Some Advice Bout Engine

I have an 08 Silverado w/ the 5.3L and w/ all the mods that have been done nothing can be fixed on it under warranty. Ive been having problems w/ oil pressure so I had a buddy of mine pull the heads off and see of he could find anything wrong and what he found is a deep groove in 2 or 3 cylinder walls and we are both pretty sure there is more things wrong internally. Not sure what would of caused this but the fact of the matter is the block needs replaced at least if not more. So Im at a crossroads of whether or not to just buy another 5.3L engine and take parts from it to fix mine or get a 6.0L take my Comp cam, lifters, valve springs out of my 5.3L and put them in the 6.0. Ive already had the tranny rebuilt for high performance so it can handle the extra power and all the connections are the same from a 5.3-6.0. Plus my STS turbo system will work w/ it as well. So Im trying to decide if i wanna put the money in it to fix the 5.3 or switch to the 6.0 or even put it all back together take all my mods off and go trade it in for an 07-08 duramax. Any suggestions would be helpful on my decision. thanks

It all depends on what you're going to do with it. You know, what are you using it for?

You do know you're going to lose your a$$ trading in an 08 right? I don't think a cylinder groove is causing oil pressure problems....other issues possibly. I think it would be cheaper to pull the block and see if it can be honed, bored or re-sleeved (if possible). What other problems are you having besides an oil pressure issue?

I took it n to get appraised and the dealership was goin to give me $26000 for it w/ all the mods taken off. Its also leaking oil somewhere but not sure where but yes oil pressure is the only issue. As for what I use my truck for, im in college and I commute bout 50 miles a days back and forth. I live on a farm so i pull trailers and things but not a lot.

Depending on what you owe/can afford/ how you live etc which only you can decide, if they want to give you 26k I would take that and run. Sell your stuff your taking off and get at least and extra 2-3k with the turbo and all the supporting mods and then go get a dmax.

From the sounds of it your not worried about warranty so I'm sure you'll take the DPF crapp outta the exhaust and chip it (voiding warranty) but that will get you pretty close the milage of the older dmaxs so that will help save you some with driving. Plus it will also net ya some more fun from the loud pedal.

Let us know what you decide.

<-- This has to be my best post just from the number btw

buy yourself an LS9 and be done with it.... :P:D:rolleyes:

Yeah, 6.0L will be a good option. Aren't you the guy with the STS kit?

This is one of the thoughts I have going on in my head...don't know If I am going to boost the 4.8L...or just build a custom 6.0L w/4l80 drivetrain for this purpose.

Thatd b a dam nice motor but w/ a good price tag for sure. yah i do have an STS turbo system. My advice would be build the 6.0L it has lot more torque which what I feel my 5.3L is lacking especially w/ a 6inch lift and 35 inch tires.
