Bilstein 5100 Adjustible Height Shocks?

Recommended Posts

I am going to order the front shocks that are adjustible up to 2" in height to level my truck. I am looking for info on how to install them. I have done rear shock in the past which are pretty strait forward but the front looks a little more complicated with the coil springs and all. Any input is appreciated.

Unless you have a spring compressor and know how to us it...let a shop do the fronts...about $150...if you have such and the knowledge...look up one of the lift spacers on the web...they have step by step instructions for getting the strut assembly out...

when i lowered my truck it was pretty straight forward not hard at all, i borrowed a spring compressor from auto zone, it was a free rental

looked overwhelming at first but was pretty easy and i dont consider myself to be a pro mechanic

The GMT900's have struts in the front? :loser:

No. Just coilover shocks on a double A-arm (wishbone) suspension. They provide no geometry control of the knuckle/wheel assembly.

"Struts" are used on a single A-arm design where the lower end of the "strut" is rigidly bolted to the knuckle, thus controlling the geometry upper end of the knuckle movement.

It'd be about like calling a catalytic converter a header.

This sounds like it may be more involved than i originally planned!

It isn't too bad. Definitely worth it.

Any tips on the install?

Just take the spring/strut assys to a local shop and have them swap the Bilsteins in. Midas will do it for $25. The rest is pretty straight forward in that thread

I picked up these shocks today and install is tomorrow. I have a 07 1500 CC 4wd and am wondering what groove to set the shocks on to get to about level. There are 3 or 4 grooves on these things and not sure which one to chose. Also what is your opinion on ride quality?

Thanks for your reply.

Hey,

Same question I asked alaskaLTZ, which groove gets you to about level and what do you think about ride quality?

Thanks,

Jerry
