There's a possibility that it is the bearing right above where the infamous intermediate shaft bolts to. If you look right above your brake pedal you'll see a big white (could be teal) disc looking thing. That's the bearing. You have to unhook the shaft and then it just pulls straight out. A replacement is somewhere in the 20 or 30 dollar range I think. Of course I'm not guaranteeing that's it...but it is possible. It's a real cheap plastic setup with some ball bearings in it. I'd pay extra for an aftermarket one with an actual metal bearing in it, but I don't know of one.

Since you said it sounds like a boot, there is a boot on the firewall where the intermediate shaft goes through. Maybe squirt some wd40 in there or something and if it changes or goes away you've found your problem.

BTW, what the hell is that F@&d doing in your garage?????

Ok i have had the same problem with my 02 i think. Whenever i turn the wheel to the left ONLY, i get this really bad rubbbing/squeaking noise. I'm about to take it to the dealer to have them look at it, i cant take it anymore! Really makes my truck sound like a pos when i'm driving people around... :loser:

Wasnt there a TSP that had to do with something like this?

I had an Expedition one time that made a terrible squeeling sound when you turned the wheel. It ended up being the pitman arm. Of course, lubing the boot would be the cheaper option to try first.

I have the same thing but only in colder weather. It definitely sounds like rubber and directly under the wheel. I agree it's pretty annoying.

Yea mine sounds like its right at the steering wheel, its like i can feel it rubbing RIGHT there if i put my hand on the column and turn the wheel...

Is it possible to pull that all apart and look? I've never disassembled a wheel w/ airbag :rollin:

I have an 04 Silverado and mine is doing the same thing. Last night I did everything except take the steering column out, trying to find that moan. I sprayed WD40 inside the rubber boot, but no luck. I guess I'll take the boot off and use some grease. The plastice bearing that was mentioned in an earlier post.....has anyone replaced it yet?
