1997 K1500 Won't Disengage 4x4

I have a 1997 Silverado that when in 4 wheel drive, it will not go back to 2 wheel drive after I push the button until I come to a stop (and sometimes backup or move forward and stop again). I have read alot online about trucks that won't engage their 4x4 and everyone says to replace the actuator, but would that be the same for my situation as my truck goes into 4hi just fine, it just won't go out of 4hi.

 

HELP PLEASE!

Sounds like something is getting stuck. You may just have to pull off the actuator motor and clean everything up. Contacts especially.

I've never done one personally, sorry.

 

From what I have heard they're not that hard though. Get yourself a good manual...like Haynes or Chilton.
