New Truck Owner Question About Nav System

Hi,

I just purchased a new 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ. The truck has the Bose sound system and I would like to add the factory GM in-dash navigation system. This is my first truck and I'm not sure where to start.

First where would I want to purchase the Nav system? From eBay? a Local GM Dealer? and how much am I looking to spend?

Second, I don't plan on installing it myself so would a Local GM/Chevy dealer do this or should I go to Best Buy?

Last, what else should I know or watch out for when doing this? Thanks.

i have been researching the same thing only i wanna do it myself. i have to decide in a day or so wether i want the dealership to get my 09' Denali with or without NAV.

i called GM parts and they said there is an upgrade kit for $3600 which includes the OEM NAV, ANT and eberything needed for installation other than labor.

but i think it's plug and play on ur LTZ. you will need the antenna mounted under the dash and that's prolly the hard part.

ask your GM parts dept which NAV unit part #'s are compatible with your truck (you will need VIN#), then get a quote from him and search on your own for what you feel most comfy with!

$3600?! you guys are nuts!! you can buy three aftermarket navigation units with way more features then the factory nav has for that price. You probably want to keep that "factory" look but thats just throwing you money away.

My Dealer here in Ontario has a link to GM accessories on their home page. You can pick your vehicle and see what accessories are available for it. In Canadian dollars it looks like it would be about $3200. I was told this included installation and you also get warranty with it.

That being said, you can buy them off ebay for alot cheaper. I doubt their that hard to install, I put one in my 04 Avalanche, I have the factory Nav in my 08 Silverado LTZ. Search youtube for videos to see how its done, then decide if you want to try it or have the dealer do it.

I forgot to add that there is a huge markup on those, my friend is the Parts Manager. You might be able to deal abit.

I love mine, matches great! Bigger screen and the unit has the navigation built in, no need to run a CD inside like the factory unit. It makes it a little easier anyways. Im definitely not hating on the factory one! Don't get me wrong! I factory ordered my truck and just got it a month ago and wanted NAV but didnt take the factory option when I ordered it because of price and the nav feature using a CD. To each their own! :uhoh: One feature I do want that the factory has is the Chevrolet boot up screen! haha. Mine shows a windows logo...boooo LOL!

Contact Greg at [email protected] He will hook you up with all the answers. Just got a nav unit from him and he needed the a number from the service tag in the glove compartment for the proper nav unit.
