Oem Tire Pics--yikes

I know some here have had some issues with the stock General tires on some Silverados. Here's some pics of these after 8500 miles on my '08, 5.3, LT. Truck is driven on paved roads most of the time but I have occasionally taken it on dirt roads in the National Forest.

 

Time to get a better on/off road tire, maybe an A/T.

Yep, doesn't surprise me. I got rid of em as soon as BFG ATs were in my budget.

I've just never seen a tire deteriorate like this one. Especially with the low miles. Been searching and reading the experiences of many here with their new tire choices. I saw the BFG AT's yesterday. Anything will be a step up to these. Can't find any Uniroyal Tiger Paws...

Not to sound like i am questioning your choice or being a jerk.....i was under the impression that tiger paws were not good tires. At least from talking to people that had them, with my mother-in-law being an exception. ( go figure,lol)

Sheepdip, I just checked and they still have Tiger Paws around. Well slap my grandma and starch my shorts. I was kidding when I said that. I just remember watching the commercials as a kid. I assumed they were long gone by now. Heck, I may now have to go fill up the truck with "Good Gulf." LOL.

I'll look for a good A/T that doesn't break the bank. Hopefully, A/T tires don't break apart like these did.

I just replaced mine at 48000 kilometers, and I noticed some of the same things happening. Replaced with Michelin LTX AT2 LT264/70R17....makes the truck look so much more, 'truckish' :-)

Is that pic of your front right tire?

 

The dealer replaced and aligned my truck three times before putting it on a frame machine to fnd out that it was bent from the factory. Currently negotiations are in the works for replacing the truck. Dealer has been completely fair and I have no complaints. I will let you know what happens.

Dirt gravel roads will do that to tires no mater what brand it is even if you only drive on them from time to time.

I'm assuming A/T tires can handle some dirt roads and trails a couple times a year without looking like these Generals? I'm hoping so. My plan is not to get just road tires.

My 07 had the Americraps on it new. Within 10,000 miles of highway miles they had chunks missing. At 30k I had them replaced with Firestones. 1,800mi later I bought my 09 and had them put my firestones on the new truck as part of the deal. They can shove those cheap ass thing right up you know where. With over 10k on the firestones, they look great.

I used to run Tiger Paws ALL the time.... and had a few sets of Laredo tires too. No Gulf gas though

The AmeriTracs are definately junk tires that GM puts on to get the truck rolling. After reading a lot, I went to the Grabber HTS after finally being able to afford to get rid of the bald AmeriTracs at 26,000 miles. With 5,000 miles on these already, they will far outlast the AmeriTracs.

Mine lasted 38k and that was a stretch.

I can understand putting cheap tires on LS models,

but not LT's and up.

I had the exact same thing happen to the OEM Continental Contrac tires that came on my 2006 F150. Chunks came out of them and the outer front tire edge was toast after several alignments. I had to replace them at 24,000 miles. The BF Goodrich Longtrails on my 2004 F150 were great though.

 

I hope the tires on my new 2009 Sierra don't do that. I can't put up with it twice in a row.
