2004 Tahoe Dieing While Slowing Down

Ok so im a noobie to the site but here we go.........

 

So from the begining, I woke up and started the car fine, ran good cold. While driving my sister to school the car would be fine while excellerating and in higher RPM and when comming to a stop the car would die if i didnt keep on the gas. It is currently throwing no code. I hobbled home and checked many features. Through a acura made tester it showed no problems with battery, alternator, roter button, or distributor cap. just for information i replaced the dristributor cap and rotor button in late 2007. I checked and am getting full fire from all cylinders.

 

My first guess was idle air control or O2 sensor but figured it would throw a code. Please reply before i lose my mind!!! X)

I'm sure others will chime in, but I'd clean the MAF sensor and throttle body and see if its still trying to stall. If it is, then I'd look at the idle/speed sensor from there.

You did nothing with any distributor on an 04 Tahoe....it doesn't have one.

 

If it does...than you have a bastardized Gen II small block in it...and you could have God knows what for problems.

And its also not a V6 either...they only came with a 4.8L and a 5.3L...which are both Gen III small blocks.

well it does because i replaced it..... and apparenttly it is a flex fuel car and i replaced the fuel filter and it fixed the problem i hope thanks for the answers

Isn't the fuel filter in the tank? Makes no matter if it is a Flex Fuel engine. It has no dist.

Maybe next time you'll give more accurate information to us. Like "engine has been replaced".

Flex has an external filter.

I hope you didn't pay a lot for the truck....if you did you got ripped off....

The only engines that came in an 04 Tahoe was a 4.8L and a 5.3L. Both of which don't have a distributor. It may have been a flex fuel with the original engine in there....but I would doubt it is actually flex fuel now. If you want to know whats in there, take a pic of the engine and we'll let you know what it is so you can buy parts for it easier in the future.
