Heet Gas Line Antifreeze

I've always put Heet in my gas tanks every 2 or 3 fill-ups in the winter. I've been wondering if it is really needed. I've heard that the gas from the gas stations already have it mixed in. I've also heard that if I keep my tank above half, I don't need any antifreeze. Anyone know if any of these are true?

If you use an Ethanol blend, it already has the alcohol in it. Heet becomes beneficial when it's -10 to -20 F below. I've never used it, and never had a prob.

... your HEET or whatever gasline antifreeze is intended to expell any free water that is in your gas tank and gas fuel lines

... water gets in the system from condensation in partially full tanks due to temperature changes... drop in temperature for a partially full fuel tank could lead to condensation as the warmer air will hold more moisture

... yes, some gasolines will have additives that help to reduce condensation (and some will not)

... what's the risk of not using it....?.... in my opinion it comes down to how often is the temperature environment for your truck changing.... if it is outside all the time then it probably does not see very many rapid temperature changes .... if it is parked in a heated garage for the night, or during the day at work... then you exit into the frigid cold to drive somewhere with a partial tank of gas and there is more risk of developing condensation...

.. the other source of water in your gas is from poor quality gas ... so buy your gasoline from reputable brand/vendors and buy it somewhere where their stock turns over fairly quickly

... I haven't used any yet this year, and it is friggin COLD here everyday for the last week.... but I will use it ocaissionally over the winter, particularly if I think the conditions for condensation in the tank are greater.

No you do not need it all, all it is is dry gas and the only way gas will freeze it has to have alot and I mean alot of water in it. Gas has a freezing point of -97F. Be careful of putting that much in your tank because its nothing but Methyl alcohol and we know what that does it drys water out and also seals in your fuel pump, injectors, etc. Once a year would hurt but I think thats too much.

In our part of the country ( Anything above the rust belt.. ) We have a winter grade gasoline, and seeing your from the Mid-west, usually we all have 10% Ethanol because of the we lil green movement..

No Need for heet.. my truck still turns over @ 30 below w/o being plugged in every time..

Use the $ you'd save on Heet and purchase some Synthetic motor oil.. Easier starting ;)

Last year my snowblower (ariens 9.25 hp) had a problem where it was constantly stalling out ... After much messing around thinking it was a grounding issue or spark plug issue, it turned out to be bad gas / water in tank....

I put some HEET in there and it ran great . Stored it away all winter with same gas in the tank bout 1/2 full and it still had HEET in there and it fired up 1st time today for our 2 feet of snow that fell!! Didnt stall out once!

Bottom line is , if you notice moisture in your gas / or its going to get real cold out / HEET is a product that works and can get you out of a tough spot quick!

+1 on the heated garage info. Number 1 cause of frozen gas lines when you pull it out into 25 below. But come on, you're in Saskatoon, my birthplace. These guys don't know what cold is. Here in Calgary, Sunday's daytime high is forecast to be 29 below. Gas line antifreeze is a must every few tanks.

Damn it man I'll never know how people can live where it's so cold................29 below!!!

How many bedsrooms is your Igloo? :D

I have never used it, I will use a can of seafoam in the tank every 2 months or so but thats it. It does get cold here in MI, not so much where I live but when we go snowmobiling in norther MI and the U.P. the truck can sit in temps below 0 (just air, not counting wind) up to 5 days and I have never had a problem, I dont let it sit with less then 3/4 of a tank either.
