The thermometer on my rear view mirror that shows external temp appears to be consistently high by about 2-3 degrees. Can it be adjusted or calibrated?

Truck is a 2001 Silverado with the LT package and the auto-dimming electronic rear view mirror.

No, that's about as good as it gets...

I was wondering the same thing myself. Mine is out about 4 degrees too. (Celsius)

Try replacing the sensor if it's bothering you that much.

Where is the sensor located? I thought these derived the temp from the MAF sensor.

It's in the front of the truck in the grille area....not sure of the exact location but it's not getting it from the MAF...

If I can find it maybe a good cleaning would help.

I don't think there's anything to clean.....do a search, I'm pretty sure there is some info here concerning the sensor and where it's located. Good luck...

Does the engine system rely on this sensor for any computations requiring accurate air temp, or is this sensor solely for the mirror thermometer? And does it have a proper name to help narrow down my search?

It's only for the mirror....check the radiator core support. I just went out and looked at mine. Facing the front of the truck it's on the right hand lower side sitting in front of the a/c condensor and next to the trans cooler.

or is this sensor solely for the mirror thermometer?yes

And does it have a proper name to help narrow down my search? ambient air temperature sensor.

On my '04, it's located below the passenger side turn signal
