Tire Suggestions

I have seen a few threads on here regarding tires but since I don't drive in a lot of snow I thought I would start another. I have a 2003 Z-71 and do a lot of highway driving commuting to work. However on the weekends I am either trailering a 6000 lb boat or hunting out in the desert. Occasionally I drive into the mountains where I have gotten into some deep snow. I currently have the BFG A/T KO ( 285/75/r16 ) and got about 50k on them. I probably should of changed them about 5k ago but the money hasn't been there. I am looking for suggestions as far as another set of A/T tires. The BFGs were a good tire but they were a little floaty with the 285s so I am probably going back to 265 for mileage and price right now. At Costco which had better prices then discount I can get the Michelin LTX AT2, BFGs, and starting in a couple weeks the REVO 2s for about the same price. Big O also gave a similar quote on a set of Big O Big Foot A/T All tires that they said are made by cooper but I am not really sold on them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BFG T/A KO's, General Grabber AT2's, Hankook DynaPro ATM's (I have these on my truck and love them), Nitto Terra Grapplers, and Cooper Zeons LTZ's if they make them in a 265...I would recommend them in that order too.

i got Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's and i really like them, I got 265's and they do a good job filling up the wheel wells (got a 99, z71)

Deep tread, aggressive look to them, IMO better looking than BFG A/T's because they're not quite so uh, almost square-ish...but i wouldnt knock on BFG A/T's too much cuz I have them on my old dodge and they hold up really well, and look pretty good

Revo 2's are some pretty tall tires...put them on and got an inch of lift over my old non-offroad 265's

Had the revos on my 2000 silverado. they were 285s....couldnt keep them balanced, but I blame that on my 6.5" wide rim. The bfg a/t wear EXTREMELY well when rotated, Ive seen 75,000 miles before. I say get another set of bfg a/t. Only thing I don't like about them are they throw rocks easy.

My old man has yokohama geolander at/s and loves them for tire wear and how well they maintain shape.

I have yokos on my grand prix and have been happy with them.

I ended up getting the REVO2. I had to make 2 trips to discount tire today because the first trip they put the first gen REVOs on and I didn't notice till I got back to work. So after work I got to make another trip back to them fix it.

Question for you...why didyou want the Revo 2 ?....just asking because from what i have read and priced out the revo 1 costs more, has deeper tread and is better off-road. ...

I believe they are both great tires. However from what I have read the REVO 1 uses a softer rubber compound that from what I read doesn't seem to last as long. The REVO 2 has a little bit different tread plus a harder compound that is suppose to fix the premature wear. Now a lot of this is what I read so I can't prove this until I drive them for awhile. Most of my driving is highway to work and back so the little advantage that I might get off-road with the REVO 1 wouldn't be worth the shorter mileage. I grew up in Michigan and have lived in AZ for the last 8 years and I can tell you that this state with it's high temps is a lot harder on tires then up north.

I put a set of the LTX A/T2's in the stock size for my '05 back in October.Michelin LTX A/T2 Discussion

I've put about 6000 miles on since then and can report complete satisfaction. Excellent road manners, nice and quiet, great traction and predictable handling over snow/slush covered roads. I upgraded to a "LT" rated tire and they do ride a bit heavier over rough roads than the OEM "P" rated stuff but not all that bad. Michelin did a great job with this tire. Full recommendation here.

I just put a set of P265 70 17 Revo2s on my Yukon XL. They have a nice ride and they're quiet. I drive on the highway a lot. I bought them because they get very good ratings almost everywhere and I've had good luck with Bridgestones before. They've only been on for a couple of weeks. I haven't tried them in snow yet. We're suppose to get 5 inches tonight with drifting. I'll get my chance tomorrow.

Just wondering if you had a chance to drive in the snow with the new Revo's yet and how did they handle?

Ahh....yes we dont have much of a problem with heat here in michigan..lol...or at least a problem of too much heat. when i look at a set of tires the first thing that i think about is "how will these handle in the snow".

We've had a few inches of snow in the last couple of days. I admit it wasn't enough snow to be a real challenge, but there was definitely snow and ice on the roads. The Revo 2s were great. It felt like there wasn't any snow there. I put it in and out of 4wd. The tires worked very well both ways.
