Leveling Using Torsion Bars

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine has a 07 Silverado Classic, he wanted to level it out. Turned torsion bar bolts up 6 turns, gaining about 1.25" in height. He is going to have an alignment done. Are there any problems with turning them up that much, other than the stiffer ride ?? Is that too much torque on them ??

lowering or raising the torsions bars is old school. Thats how I lowered my front end on my Nissan truck, because I couldn't afford drop spindles... Have you thought about a ReadLift kit to even it out? They are priced pretty cheap on autoanything.com

What exactly do you think the "readylift" kit does?

i'm saying if he had the money he can get the READYLIFT kits to even it out and keep the stock handling and feel... like this one

I know... and don't take this the wrong way but your advice is completely inaccurate because it lacks an understanding of how his suspension system works and how the ride height increase is achieved.

Just so you know, if he installed those READYLIFT keys to get 1.25" of height like he got out of his stock keys, he would have the SAME handling and feel.

In other words, he would have wasted the $$$ and achieved nothing.

The ONLY reason to install the Readylift kits (or any other keys for that matter) is if he wanted 2" of increased ride height but is only able to get 1.5" out of the stock keys due to the indexing. The aftermarket keys are indexed differently which allow you to apply more preload beyond what the stock keys are capable of because they hit the top of the torsion bar crossmember.
