2009 Tahoe With 4.8l

Would the 4.8L engine be enough for a Tahoe? Wife and I are talking about getting one of the leftover 2009s that has it and was just curious.

Considering it does fine in crew cab pickups and can still haul stuff, I would certainly think it could handle a Tahoe.

Besides, GM wouldn't sell it if it weren't adequate at the very least.

I had a 99 Silverado Extended Cab with the 4.8 and loved it. That is really a great engine and I would definitely recommend it to anyone and expect it to be fine in a Tahoe.

Tell me if this sounds like a good deal:

"I show to have the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Click here for window sticker you selected

here and available. Stock #9R293142 MSRP $37,915 Our Special Internet price

including all rebates is $31,715 + TTL"

There's also the $1000 GM loyalty rebate on top of that. He says this deal is getting it at GM Supplier discount plus all rebates.

thats still not quite as good as the former employee pricing discounts they used to offer to the public a couple yrs. back.. try and offer them 30K +TTL, and then be willing to walk and come back later and give them a chance to think about your business that you may take somewhere else... plus most folks do overlook the 4.8l for a Tahoe since everybody wants the most power possible, so it probably isn't what i'd call a "hot" mover.. p.s. GM used to offer a xtra rebate on silverado 04-06 4.8 CC's when they came w/o the "standard" 5.3, maybe only 500 bucks..

The 4.8 liter engine is fine, especially because it does not have the AFM system. However, they tend to couple it to ridiculously tall axle gears, like 3.23s, which is bad for any towing.

My buddy has a Yukon with the 4.8L and to me it seems like it doesnt have enough power. When you floor the gas pedal, the RPM's shoot up but it really doesnt go......Maybe its just me because when I floor my Sierra w 5.3 it GOES!! On the other hand he loves it and has no complaints!

OK...this dealer uses the last 8 of the actual VIN for their stock number...

so, the vin ends in 9R293142

I took the last 8, and ran the vin thru GM database.

Dealer has had truck in inventory since 10-29-09, it has Heavy Duty Trailering package, also has the GU5 3.23 axle withOUT G80 locking diff.

So, it is a less-optioned 2wd Tahoe, already a model year old, with a smaller 4.8 and an open diff with 3.23 gearset.

Some of us might think "Screw that..."

BUT, the OP might thing "...that's just what I was looking for..."

I suggest the OP drive it....then report back.

As far as $30,000...no way. Start at $27,000

It all depends on how long you plan to hold on to this and/or what you will use it for. If you're keeping it for 10 years it probably won't be a big deal that it's a 4.8, but if you plan to trade in 2-3 years you'll have substantially lower residual value to trade/sell.
