Gm Electric Retract Mirrors

My father has an 03 silverado with the power retracting mirrors. Only problem is one doesn't go in or out, just makes some noise and jiggles. Is there a remedy for these or should he look into some different ones? I think its only the motor that not making good contact with the opposing gear but I haven't dug into it yet. Common problem? The truck wasn't used very much by the previous owner so I can't think they were worn out from regular use. Any advice would be helpful.

Someone probably hit the mirror and pushed it in stripping the gear out...probably the P/O

 

Pull it apart and replace the broken parts.

Do what Nytemare said first and if that does not work then you can probably find one for a cheap price at a slavage yard.
