97 Tahoe - P0339

Hello,

I have a 97 Tahoe with the P0339 code. I've replaced the CKP sensor, cleared the code, tried to start and it still would not start - also threww the P0339 code again.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Larry

Check the wiring to the sensor - could be a pinched, corroded or shorted wire or connector. Also don't rule out the new sensor ... anything is possible.

I did try to follow the wire and didn't notice any problems with it. Is there anything else that might cause this code?

I *REALLY* need some help with this. I've followed through the wiring and see nothing out of sync. The truck hesitated some when my wife drove it last and then would not start once in the garage. I suspected a fuel problem and replaced the filter and pump. This made no change to the syptoms.

I got the code reader and saw the P0339 and replaced the sensor. There's little information on the internet and I don't have other gauges and such to do other types of testing. Am I stuck or what?

Thanks!

According to the code you have a circuit A intermittent.

That tells me that your light blue wire with the white stripe is broken somewhere.

Thanks! I'll check that more closely to see if I can find it. If I can't find it, would the only option be to replace the harness?

Well...don't blindly replace the harness....its a wire man....trace it to where it goes and replace the wire.

If you have a multimeter you can meter the whole wire and check for continuity to see if its broken or not. Check all 4 wires...it could be broken on the return too...its the black wire with the white stripe.

I started taking the plastic wire covers off and found that the six wires running down the passenger side of the engine were either burnt through or almost burnt through. There are no blue/white stripe wires, but one burnt through was one of the three that goes to the CKP. I need to splice all of them.

Looking at the wires, 5 are small and one is large (black wire - ground?). How important is it to have the exact wire size when replacing? The small ones look like a bit smaller than standard trailer light wires (when I compare them to the trailer wires I have) and the black one is probably 3x the small ones. I know the resistants is different depending on the wire size, so I'm a bit concerned that replacing the smaller ones with slightly larger ones will cause the resistance to be too high and it won't run properly. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Larger wire is ok....smaller wire is not....resistance only changes by a significant amount when you get into very large amounts of wire...like 100ft.

6" of wire you need is not going to make a difference...as long as you don't go smaller...its a size for a reason...and it is the minimum size it needs to be to carry a current and not get too hot.

The Black wire...its probably a signal ground yeah. But that wire should have a voltage on it...the reference is 10V, and the black wire is the low reference...meaning it will have some potential to ground....maybe 2 volts or so...so unhook the battery while your fiddling around with it.

Make sure to solder and shrink wrap...than put the plastic sheeting back on.

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
