30000 Mile Service

What do they want to do? Are you getting a rough idle or any issues? May not need anything more than a can of BG 44K. Are they using a BG product? Depending on what they are doing and independent shop that uses BG product may do same for less.

I run BG 44K every 10-15,000 miles and run Chevron/Texaco gas and no issues so far on cars or trucks.

They said its a fuel system service, Includes cleaning of the throttle body, fuel filter, fuel injectors, and hoses, i think thats it.

Not sure why they want to do such unless just the miles. If not having a problem, ask them about just running BG-44k. BG does have a product and system to fog/clean the fuel system etc...this may be what they are talking about. I would just go with BG 44k if no overt problems...I also use the MOA in the oil change at 30,000.

There are some GM dealer/shop folks on here and could do a better job on advice.

Is this necessary, or can i just use fuel injector cleaner. Dealership wants to charge me 219.99

That price is crazy. I had the complete injector service including the tank additive for about $130. I feel it was worth the price.

I have never had a fuel service done, 55,000 on the truck, 130K on the car. I use seafoam in the tank aver 3000 miles. once a year take the intake tube off and clean with carb cleaner and a tooth brush. Also do the seafoam in the brake booster once a year.

Agree, you can buy the 44K for about 20 bucks and done...and yes the fuel filter is in the tank...

If you use decent fuel that has additives, there is no need in a modern engine to do do a fuel system clean unless you're having driveability or idle issues.

The dealer is selling air. Pure profit for them and very little for you. These systems do not require a "service". It won't harm the system, but it isn't going to give you any results other than a drained wallet.

would skipping this service affect warranty coverage? is this mandatory maintenance to comply with your warranty?

I don't remember anything in my owners manual stating anything about fuel system service anywhere. I add a bottle of B12 Chemtool or Techron at every oil change and maybe some seafoam or B12 into the intake. I've had the heads off my old LS1 and the valves, pistons etc.. were pretty clean. Not much carbon buildup at all.

It won't have any effect on your warranty. It's mostly a "Dealer Recommended" service... which translates into: High profit for very little work.

All gasoline sold in the US has detergent. There is a minimum amount set by the EPA. Some like Chevron add more than is required but nobody but them knows how much. Could be 12 oz in a tanker. They arent saying. I had the FI service done at about 50k, a little early, but I feel good about it. Injectors are very expensive so to me it is peace of mind and my truck has no driveability issues. Like changing fluids, everyone has thier own beliefs. Whatever makes you feel good. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/fuels/additive/fact7gda.htm
