04 8.1 What Can I Do With It?

I just picked up an 8.1 out of an 04 tow truck for next to nothing, just not sure what i can or cannot do with it,

I put this in a post a while backand asked about putting it in a 2500 cargo van, that in 01 came with the 8.1 as an option.

now the idea was maybe an older 4x4 2500 pickup, so the qeustion now is stay injected and try to find the right computer and wiring, or can i simply change the intake and make it carberated, i looked today and under the intake theres a spot where it looks like the distributor is supposed to go..

please guys let me know what you think, or im sure somebody has played with one of these, please lwt me know what you did, do,s & donts...

stay injected, it will be an even bigger pig carbed let alone probably be weaker

You have no choice but to stay injected as there isn’t a carbureted intake for an 8.1L in existance. Other BBC intakes are not interchangeable with the 8.1L. It would be foolish to slap a toilet on top of a Vortec anyway, as there are many wiring harnessed available to easily drop these Vortecs in almost anything (there isn’t much different between a LS harness and 8.1L harness). I used a Howell Engine Development harness for my 8.1L swap and was very pleased with their harness quality.

Ok so so far im understanding i have to keep it injected, but whats invloved in a ( stand alone fuel system, or fuel managment) does this mean i can put the motor in diffrent vehicles without have to have the right ecm/wiring?
