Rear Diff Options

I have an '07 silverado classic C1500 with an open 3.23 10 bolt w/ drums. I can't take the peg leg or ratio any more. What's my best option?

 

I've been looking for a G80 GT4 or GT5 for a 8.6 10 bolt with drums and it seems they are difficult to come by (perhaps a lack of knowledge by the sellers). Is this the same rear that might have been in a Yukon or a 4wd? What all needs changed to switch to a disk rear (ABS, proportioning valves, M/C stroke?)

Would a 14 bolt slide under there if I plug and redrill the axles?

Would I be better off buying an aftermarket posi & ring & pinion?

Once a ring and pinion is out of time and swapped to a different housing, are they noisy and wear quickly?

Surely somebody else in here has been down this road.

If you can find a Denali or 06/07 SS rear end...they were 14 bolt...its a hybrid 14-bolt. they have a 9.5" ring gear and 6-lug hubs. They came in 4.10 and 3.73 ratios and with a G80 option.

 

RPO code is AXN

GT4 is a 3.73

GT5 is a 4.10
