Remote Start Functions?

I have an 08 Silverado with the factory remote start feature. It says in the owners manual that when you start the truck and its cold outside, the heater will automatically come on. When its hot out and you remote start the truck, its SUPPOSED to run the AC.Mine does neither! Is there a setting on the DIC that controls this? I have tried leaving the heater on when I exit the truck but this still does work. Any help would be apprecited-especially when its 0 degrees out like now!!!

Do you have automatic climate control? If not, the system will just run at whatever settings you had them set on at shut-off. I know the only setting on my DIC about remote start is to turn it on or off.

There was a post about this not too long ago. The auto start does not let the vehicle run long enough for the auto settings to work.

If you auto HVAC it should turn the heater or A/C on depending on the temp outside. It will run 10 minutes before it shuts off with the remote start (another 10 minutes if you reset it again). I don't know how long it takes the truck to get warm when it's really cold outside but my truck (2009) will get the interior plenty warm (including the heated seats) when it's about 5 to 10 degrees or so outside in 10 minutes or slightly less.

If yours doesn't you need to take it to the dealer-2008-still under warranty? I think that you have a problem in the system. I use mine almost every day when the temp is low and it works fine all the time. BY the way it will work almost as good in the summer when the temps are really high but I found that when the temp is over 100 degrees, 10 min is not quite enough to completely cool down the truck but 20 min works real good.

mine does, seat heaters come on full as well-has to be below 45 degrees I think....summer the AC comes on in full hurricane mode...

how long are you letting it run before checking it?? DAve

It will run for 10 minutes and then shut off. No heat either. Thanks guys for the replies. Guess its off to the dealers on monday.

Mine only works with the heat. My air conditioner does not work with remote start. I have manual heat/air. I took it in for repair in the summer the dealer could not figure it out. I'm tired of taken this truck in. It has been back for a lot of things way more than my 2004 I had....

Take care,

Matt

I hear you Matt. Sometimes I wish I hadnt of gotten rid of my 04 as it was never back to the dealer but 1 time and that was for the steering shaft recall.I am taking mine back in Monday and I will post as to what they find ( or usually, what they do not find!)

For those with auto climate controls, I believe the engine water temperature has to reach ~160 degrees (for proper heater core operation) before the heater will kick on after an auto start. So if the engine does not sufficiently warm up to this point in the ten minutes the truck times itself before shutdown, you will not have any heat blown into the cab at that point.

I cannot say this is a sure thing, this is just what I have observed happen on my 2008.

I have been thinking of adding the factory remote start option to my 07, I am curious to see the answer to this.

I am also wondering if there are options to allow the vehicle to run longer than 10 minutes. The after market ones that I was looking at default at 12 minutes but you can adjust them (without much trouble) to run longer...
