Notice Clear Plastic On New Truck Near Rear Wheel Well

My new 2009 silverado which I recently bought had clear plastic on each side by rear wheel fender where it extrudes outward. One side is starting to peel. Is this normal, or something from delivery packaging?

I still have them on my new 09 Sierra, they haven't peeled yet. I believe they are just plastic factory protective film that covers the lower panel of the bed during transport and delivery and not meant to be permanent, just like clear protective sheet on new cell phones screens, lcds, the inside dash of my truck, etc...

Hmmm, I kinda think they're meant to be permanent to protect that area behind the wheels from rock chips. I know they were quite helpful in my recent muddy dirt road excursions in Mexico. Anyone out there know for sure?

I believe it's the 3M protective Tape meant to be permanent. I buy the same stuff for the Headlights to protect them against chips and sand frosting. I leave it on, that stuff isn't cheap.

I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be permanent. I have 4, 2 in front of the wheel well, and 2 on the edge of the rear of the wheel wells. 1 of mine is coming off, I need to replace it.

It is supposed to be permanent. When my 07 had the bedside replaced they body shop had to put one on. They put it on crooked too. Oh well that truck is gone and my 09 has them too.

My 07 gmt-900 also has that brand x "3-m invisible bra" tape on the

box bulges and on the bottom rear edges of the front and rear fenders.

By my count, permanent wins. So you can buy that stuff? I need to put some on the front of my Caddy CTS; it's getting chips on the front of the hood.

You can buy it precut with instructions or there are places that will install it for you. Go online and check it out. I would recommend the 3M Protective shields. They have it for the Headlights and fog lights also. Keeps them from getting that sand blast look. Not cheap, but it's good.

You can also buy it in roll form and install it wherever you like.

OP, I agree with everybody here. Permanent.

I have friends who have RX-8's and they come with the same film in the same area of the fender, one has his on still and the other one took his off. I guess they are there to protect the body. I'm sure they can be either permanement if you want or removable, because I posted this awhile back about getting chrome ones as replacements, I have seen other trucks that have the chrome protectors instead of the clear ones..

My 2010 had the same problem. I just peeled it off and then had the clear 3m applied in the same area but larger. I then installed the factory molded flaps and it keeps them from rubbing through the paint. Just my 2 cents
