Rear Diff

Hey guys, just wondering... What rearend do I most likely have in my truck? I am putting on a mag-hytec cover and doing a fluid change (obviously) and I'm not sure if I have a locker or limited slip rearend. So I don't know if I need the friction modifier or not. Thanks!!

Don't think trucks normally have LSDs, either it's locker or open. Unless for some reason you have and LSD, don't add friction modifier.

Oh, ok I thought the g80 was the locker.. thanks for the correction!

thats what I figured, I just wasnt exactly sure. I also just read that the amsoil synthetic rear diff fluids don't need the additive anyways so I would have been ok either way. Thanks for the input!

Stop confusing him.

G80 is the RPO code for a limited slip rear end....period.

G80 in all 99 and newer trucks means it has a locking rear end from Eaton called a mechanical locker...or by some a cookoo clock locker, named so for the way it works emulating the movement of a cookoo clock.

Cars and some SUV's with a G80 code have a clutch style LSD.

No matter which one you have the RPO code is still G80 and if you dont have an open rear diff than you have a limited slip rear end. Weather it locks or is clutch type of fluidic type or any other type of diff, other than a open or a spool...its referred to as a Limited Slip. That's what the locker or clutches etc does...it limits the slip in the differential.
