No Reverse 97 Chevy 4x4 4l80-e

I have a 1997 Silverado 3/4 ton ext cab 4x4 with a 4L80e trans about two years ago I lost overdrive, no problem I only use the truck for hunting and around the house. now I have lost reverse, it work fine when I parked it last week. is it the trans or electrical? what are your thoughts?

... the lack of reverse could be related to a broken/cracked sunshell in the transmission .. if so the transmission needs rebuilding

 

... loss of 4th (OD) is likely caused by worn 3/4 clutch

 

... either way the transmission is likely due for a total rebuild... take it to a trustworthy transmission mechanic for an opinion ... if you plan to keep running the truck and the truck is otherwise in good condition ... a transmission rebuild is worth the investment... sure beats paying the price for a NEW truck ...

These trucks where bad for this. I bought my 98 Z71 new and the tranny (sun gear) went out at 3800 kms then again at 8300km and a third at 12000 km's finally they (GM) put in a new tranny rather than rebuild it again. Same thing lose 4th then reverse.

he has an 80 not a 60 ,sun gear probs are in a 60,get your poop together lol
