Another Accident Story

My new 2009 Sierra I got in late August of last year got rear ended this morning. The roads weren't too bad. It was a little slick and I was able to stop for the red light but the guy behind me sure couldn't. He hit the rear end on the right side and bent the tailgate, smashed the bumper, crumpled the rear quarter pane and pushed the exhaust system against the right rear tire. It would have been driveable accept for the exhaust system.

I'm ok but the other driver's head was bleeding. He was walking and such but he opted to leave with EMS. Probably a good thing to do. And his car is probably totaled. I don't know for sure but his hood made a tent and the driver side front end was smashed in pretty good.

If you are still reading this far then you should be pleased to hear that my rental is a Nissan Titan. We are getting a lot of snow today and since my Sierra is my first 4x4 I was pretty bummed that I get into an accident during our first good snow storm for the SE area of Michigan. The roads were really bad by time I got to the collision shop so I opted for a 4x4 and the Titan was all they had. I have to say, the Sierra's 4x4 performs so much better than the Titan. The Titan is almost lousy with the 4x4 in the snow while the Sierra feels like it's on dry pavement. And the Titan's interior doesn't do much for me, either. But, at least it's a truck that I can use while mine is getting fixed.

The Sierra just seems like it's in a whole class by itself over the Titan. GM made a darn fine truck.

And the Onstar was fantastic for the accident, too. They knew exactly where I was and sent EMS for the other driver asap. It was a good day to be in a Sierra.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear you're ok. In the end, that's the main thing.

Sorry to hear of your accident. Next time make sure you carry a decent camera so you can take pics for us to see! Also, pack a hacksaw so you can cut off your mangled exhaust, and drive your ride! Actually, hope there ISN'T a next time.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

I did go to the body shop and took some picks of the damage. I'll try to post some tomorrow. The adjuster happened to be there and she had "blend" written in yellow on the passenger suicide door. The top of the bed hit the back of the cab and did some damage there, too. So far damages are at $4300. (sigh) Now I'm wondering if the frame is bent. She said it snapped back into place but we'll see.

That's significant damage - what did he hit you with, a snowplow?

I have no idea what he was driving. Looking at the front end after the crash you couldn't tell what it was. Wish I had a photo of it. It was a 4 door Malibu/Fusion type vehicle I think. Nothing bigger.

Same here. Glad you're alive!

Someone there best have some really good insurance.....

A guy at work saw my accident and I was hit by a 2008 Toyota Camry. I guess he doesn't have to worry about any recalls now.
