What Type Of Fastener Is This?

I need to take the latch cover off of the latch for my glove box. What kind of fastener is holding it on?

Replacing the latch on my glove box. However, the new latch I got had peeling paint so, I'm going to still use the the cover from my old latch.

 

This "rivet" is about 1/16" in diameter and 1 3/4" long. Where can I get a new one?

I had to take mine apart too because the spring broke ant it rattled. I cut the mushroomed end off with a dremel and used a long bolt and nut to replace it. Works great. It was just a bolt from my junk box. Don't know the size, sorry.

Drill it out and replace it with a long screw and nut.

its a long ass rivot big 10-4 on the replacing it with a small bolt/lockwasher/nylock

It looks like a proprietary rivet to me.l I doubt you are going to like the results if you take it apart. Why not scuff up and paint the handle?

There's a special tool used to flare the end of the rivet. There's an anvil that goes on the open end to form the flare and then a piece that fits on the head to allow you to smack it without ruining the head. When you smack it, the open end flares out.
