No Grab Handle?

Why is there no grab handle for the driver on the 2009 Silverado 1500? I really like having one...does anyone know if I can install one?

 

I'm selling my old truck and and will miss the grab handle greatly...I'm not short nor out of shape...just like it.

cd1, I assume you mean the one attached to the roof on the inside of the cab about the middle of the doorway. I'm trying to remember if my 05' silverado had a handle there but my memory fails me.

 

I don't recall that topic ever coming up so unfortunately I can't point you toward a solution. Maybe someone else here has heard of something though.

I've had 3 S10's,3 GMT400 trucks,2 GMT800 trucks,and my current GMT900,none of them had a drivers-side grab handle.

You use the steering wheel for a grab handle!

I don't like pillar-mounted driver-side grab handles (like the Tundra has), since they block the view. I've always used the steering wheel.

I saw one vehicle, I am not sure which truck I was looking at, but it had a grab handle at the end of the dash. My 02 Silverado had a cover there and there were fuses just inside dash.

That might not be a bad place to have one.

I'll have to do some digging to get an answer. I've got one in my F150 and it's perfect...doesn't affect visibility at all and to me it's far more ergonomic than grabbing the steering wheel on the way in.

I have owned a '88 F150, '93 GMC S-15 Jimmy, 2001 Sierra and a 2009 Sierra and none of them have had drivers side grab handles. I always thought the reasoning was if you are driving they don't want you holding ont he the "oh S%$T" handle. You should have hands on the wheel.

My '05 Sierra does not have one, and yes I miss it too.

I always grab for it when washing the truck and want to do the roof. I stand on the nerfs and reach for it and it is not there. Not that it means anything, but add me to the proverbial petition!

I don't like grabbing the steering wheel since I'm 250 lbs.

I feel like I might do damage pulling on the steering wheel every time I get in and out.

I too wish there were another handel for the driver.
