Headers For 6.0l

I'm looking to get some headers for my 2000 3/4ton with the 6.0l engine. This is a work truck and not performance oriented however any power gains are welcome. The factory manifold has a nice crack in it causing a huge exhaust leak aswell as a couple of bolts that seem to have snap their heads. I'm not really sure what the better brands are for Silverado's or if I should look into longtubes or shorties. I know longtubes make more power but are they direct boltin's? I'm only looking to swap out headers and have it mate right up to the rest of the exhaust so I was assume that would mean shorties. Is my thinking flawed or spot on?

your best bet is to go to a website like performance trucks dot net and post a wanted ad for a used manifold.... probably can find one for the cost of shipping.

 

long tubes aren't going to do what you want, shorties will bolt in, but the cost will be more and you won't really get any gains worth talking about (talking from actual experience here)

Shorties are petty close to stock, and wouldn't be worth the $$$. I would suggest LTs if you plan on getting headers. We are running AEM LTs on our 6.0L.

Shorties basically give you the look and a close match to the sound of headers...if that's what your after, than they're awesome...but if you want to make power...your looking for LT headers. LT headers mean you are going to have to cut and splice your exhaust together, or spend big bucks and get a set with Y-Pipe cats and all that bolts to your intermediate pipe flange...if you have no emissions laws than check into the ones 3 posts down...the pacesetter post...they're very cheap but good quality headers, and they're y-pipe is awesome, but no cats come with the kit.

Fabbing up the exhaust is what I don't want to do as this is my work truck.(Own a 4th gen Camaro for fun stuff) I was only thinking of headers because the dealer want's so damn much for the manifolds that I'd rather spend the money on some performance headers to get a nice sound and a few ponies(Plus they look better). If shorties will bolt right in place of the stockers than that's what I'm after just not sure on brands to look into really. I see AEM and Pacesetter were mentioned so I'll check into them.

Edelbrock's ti-tech headers are nice looking too.

 

Go on summit and have a look...there are hundreds of headers out there for these trucks. SLP had some shorties too...and they are a supporting vendor here, haven't looked lately at what they carry.

Was looking at the BBK headers on Jegs but then kept noticing JBA thrown around. After researching, these seem to be pretty good. What would be a good price for these?

Check on eBay or Amazon.com...they usually have awesome deals.

Both are very good quality...JBA sells for about a hundred bucks more than BBK...Edelbrocks are about the same price.

 

Make sure you get the ceramic coated ones man...you'll love them. Keeps the underhood temps way down.
