Passenger Side Mirror Not Dimming!?!?

Recommended Posts

Whats up guys?, I have an 08 GMC Sierra. I've noticed that the driver side mirror and the rear view dim at night but not the passenger side mirror. Is that normal?

I have searched here on the forum and looked in the manual but could not find a straight answer and thought I'd ask here.

Thanks

yep, only the driver's side mirror and the interior mirror dim. Passenger side has never done this.

kind of dumb if you ask me.

I bet it was a cost decision. I broke the glass only on my driver side mirror and it cost me just over $300 to replace. That's with the turn signal, dimming, and heated features.

Someone smashed my mirror on my 08 maxima with their mirror, it cost $586 to have it replaced. That mirror has heat, dim, open/close, and the down feature when you put it in reverse. I was shocked at the price when they told me.

Nope, the eliminated it. The 1998,1999 Tahoe, Yukon, Denali(98-00), Escalade (98-00) had a passenger side dimming mirror.

Huh, did not know that.

Yeah, my old GMT-400 Tahoe had both sides auto-dimming. Really wish they would bring that back though. It's not a big issue for the driver. But if you're the passenger, headlight reflection from the right side mirror is quite blinding.

Not really, because the right outside mirror is adjusted so that the driver can see, and that means that the passenger will not see the reflected glare in the mirror, as he cannot see anything in the mirror if properly adjusted for the driver. With this kind of reasoning (faulty though it may be), I am ready to work for GM as their penny pinching adviser, don't you think? :dunno:

Yeah, if you adjust it the way most people do, that is true. But then you'd be doing it wrong.

If you adjust the mirrors correctly so that it's pointed outward away from the vehicle, it can cause quite a glare at night for the passenger. Because then the mirror is in fact pointed at the passenger. I've had passengers "comment" on that. So far it's only been an issue when driving out on those dark empty roads where the only light is that of the bright headlights behind you. But as you can see from the link, adjusting your side mirrors this way eliminates blind spots. And that's way more important, of course.

I've been driving like that for years. Good stuff. Well... except for your passenger if you don't have auto-dimming passenger side mirrors. :dunno: But I think they'd rather be safe than see where you're going.
