Gmt900 Sounds Like An Old Rocking Chair

Been happening for the last few months. '07 GMT900 Crew Cab Sierra 2WD. Going over bumps, or even in my driveway hitting the brakes quick, I get a creaking sound from the rear of the truck. Stand in the bed, and move it up and down, still hear creaking sound. Can't figure out where it's coming from. Anything I can lube or grease to see if it goes away? The shocks are brand new, Bilstein 5100's. Has been happening before the shocks were installed too.

I'm assuming since it's audible with suspension movement that it's leaf spring related. But I can't pinpoint it.

to most suspect things would be leaf springs or contact points between the bed and the frame.

I'd douse each suspect spot one at a time with some penetrating lube (PB Blaster, Kroil, etc. - NOT wd-40) and see where it stops. Leave it alone at that point, if it returns consider packing with suitable grease for a longer term fix.

I noticed that you have what appears to be the GM assist steps. I have read that they can be a source of squeaking. Try torquing the mounting bolts and see if that helps. If not, take the steps off and see if that eliminates the noise.

They're the 6" oval steps just like yours. I'll try that, thanks.

Nick, thanks for the suggestion. I'll break out the PB Blaster tonight.

I would also recommend coating the bolts with a thread sealant. I noticed that my bolts were coated with something like a sealant. It wasn't thread locker.

Probably anti-seize lubricant....

About a month after installing my steps I checked the fasteners on mine. The front bolts on both sides of mine were loose. That is when I re-torqued all of them. I didn't notice any squeaking, but I am half deaf and usually play the radio pretty loud!! :)

I had the same creaking noise on my truck. Could not pin point it and it was driving me nuts!!! Go over ALL of your weather stripping with silicon spray (wipe in on), especially the top piece that runs along the roof and it will be quiet - I'd almost bet on it. Good luck!

Leaf springs. I am having the same issue. Sprayed em down and they have quieted down

I do not hear any squeaking or rattles in my deuce and a half because the engine is so loud that you need to wear earplugs while driving the truck!
