I Am Putting My System Together In A Silverado 2003

So I just bought this truck... I decided first thing that needs to be changed out is the sound system considering the passenger front speaker is blown plus its just factory. Its nononstar and nonBose thankfully.

I have already bought....

10 Inch sub -

6 1/2 Components -

Component Amp - I gotta adjust the gain down on this.... to 21.9volts. But what test tone for components?

Sub Amp

Stuff I plan to buy....

Head Unit - Kenwood KIV-700 This doesnt come out until May 10th So I gotta wait.

Amp Wiring Kit - Rockford-Fosgate-RFK4D

Stuff I plan to buy but have questions about....

1) Rear-4x6'sInfinity-Kappa462.9cfp. Crutchfield says they dont fit in Reg Cab but I seen in a review a guy says they do anybody ever use these? I also plan to put some bass blockers on these.

2) Sub Box - Bass-Slammer- (This seems to be perfect cubic size) but its 5/8th wood anyone have suggestions on single 10inch truck box?

3) DIN mounting kit - do I just buy the one from walmart Scosche or is there a better brand?

4) The Chime Replacment thing any suggestions? Do I just get the one from Crutchfield or get the one off amazon? any reviews on which is better?

Now Some technical questions....

Should I run new wire to the rear 4x6s or do I just use the factory? I wont be amping these. I thought it would be nice to be able to use the fade off the Head Unit plus the front 6 1/2s should be sounding great.

Last.... I dont wanna drill into my truck to much... Is there a way I can just mount my two amps to a board then figure out a way to just stand it up in the back with like velcro or something else?

Oh one more good place to ground my amps on the silverado? anyone have suggested places? I seen a bolt sticking up behind the seats, where does that go?

Thanks

I know its alot but I figured id put it out there.

Well my system is not that much different then what you are putting together. I have a Kenwood DDX512 Head unit I used a Metra 99-2003 Multi-Kit to mount it. I used a Metra 70-2003 harness, but I have no chimes. If you want to retain your chimes I would use a Metra GMOS-01 harness. I have Infinity Kappa 60.9cs 6.5" components in the front doors and Infinity Kappa 462.9 cfp 4x6 plates in the rear. The 4x6 plates fit well enough, you just need to center them in the holes and sink some screws into the factory sheet metal. That Kenwood your looking at should have a cross over setting so you shouldn't need bass blockers. I'm running my fronts and rears off of the Kenwood with factory wiring. I decided to go with a Rockford Fosgate P3L-S12 12" slim subwoofer, powered by an Alpine MPR-M500 amplifier. It sounds great and is suprisingly loud & well balanced. I'm in the process of building a board to mount the amp and sub enclosure to. They are currently held in place with some 3M heavy duty velcro. They do not move. I will be using the same Velcro to fasten the board to the cab. As for ground for the amps. I grounded mine behind the drivers b-pillar molding I did this when I pulled it to change the speakers.

Cool I was very curious of the Kappas would work... I take it they sound well? I know I shouldn't expect much from 4x6's but I figured I needed to put some decent upper class speakers, mostly plan to use them for tweeters considering I am mounting my components as Coaxial so I don't have to drill a hole in my molding for the tweeter.

The Factory 4x6s are like an inch away from ear so I think I may need to fade these out a good bit, I had to do the factory ones a little bit already.

so you grounded your amp where to the sheet metal? You mind posting some pics on how you grounded it? or is it under the molding and stuff?

It's grounded under the molding but I can pop it off and take some pics. I'll to get them posted ASAP, but I'm working till 7:00pm to night. I'm off tomorrow so maybe I can do it then. I'll get a pic of the mounted Kappas as well.

Very Cool You can take your time considering I dont plan to put these in till may when the Head unit I want comes out. I am just trying to get an idea of what all I need to do and getting all the stuff together. I will probably pull the trigger on the Kappas tonight or sometime this week considering Crutchfield has a sale on them going on.

Still need some advice on Single Sub Box for a 10inch woofer....

and what Chime Replacement things are the best... Considering I have heard a lot of them are overly loud and if they are did you just tape over the chime emitter? I heard about alot of people doing that.

and I havent looked at the factory GM speaker wire? Would I gain anything from running new wires?

Alright I bought the Infinity-Kappa462.9cfp. 70 bucks off ebay new.

I also bought Rockford-Fosgate-RFK4D dual amp kit 85 bucks ebay new.....

Do I need any kind of speaker adapters to install 6 1/2 components in my door?

All I need now is HU and Subwoofer box... I am on the fence on which of those to buy. but I am ready to get both. Ive already spent a good bit of money ready to see my investment.

So I ordered my Big 3 supplies last night.... Pretty much now I just need to order some more RCA cables, HU and Sub box.

What Tools Do I need to do this install?

I dont own any tools so either I am going to have to borrow them from my friends or go buy them.

I know Ill need

Phillips

Flat Head

Sandpaper

Crimper and Connectors

What size sockets do I need to do the big 3 and such?

Do I need a drill?

Do I actually need the trim removers? do they make things easier?

I just don't feel like opening everything up and see I don't have the tool I need to have to drive down to Lowe's or whatever to get it.

Don't worry about the last post... I got the tool thing now covered talked to my cusions they got every tool in the book.

But my next question is about deadner.... I was going to buy 40ft square feet for the doors but I was thinking I might as well do the back wall of the cab as well, sounds like alot of sound comes from there.

How do you get the back wall carpeting off properly? How much deadner do I need for the back wall?

Sorry If it sounds like i am taking my time with this install.... Its because I am. I am just wanna do it all in big long day. I Promise pics or a video or something once I do it.

The carpet is held on with a couple of pop clips. When you remove the plastic trim below the window you will see them.

So I bought the Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD It should be coming in next week with all the adapters and stuff I need coming in on separate orders from ebay.

When I was reading on crutch field it says to install this Head Unit I need to cut out some kind of Metal support bracket.... I made the mistake and ordered the 10 dollar directions from crutchfield because I didnt know what hell that was. I got my guide and the damn thing says nothing about a support bracket or points to it.

So what Do I need to cut out? What is the best way of doing it?

Its going to be a little longer on the rest of system because I need to get some Deadening before I install the speakers and such, no point in poping off the trim and speakers more then once.

Thanks as always for replies.

No need to cut. I have done many double din radios in Silverados/Sierras and never once have I had to cut anything.

Thanks for the replies Sink Hole....

So I got my metra Harness/Chime replacement thing today plus my new Pioneer AVH-p3200(So ready to get this in).

I was looking at the wiring harnesses making sure i was ok with everything, Am Still waiting for the mounting kit plus butt connectors to come in the mail before installing.

The Metra Adapter has a Illumination(orange) and Dimmer (orange/white) wire while the Pioneer Harness only has a lighting switch terminal wire(orange and white).... What am I suppose to do with these? Google has like 20k in different answers. Do I just match the Orange/white's? What do I do with the Illumination wire?

Next question for the harness is the Pioneer has a ground wire with a connector on it made to screw down... Can I just cut this off and attach it to the Metra Adapters Ground?

One more question.... The Parking Brake wire for the DVD playback ability.... Where is there wire? The Pioneer Manual says its a switch but Silverado had a lever to disengage and the actual parking brake where is this wire? Before someone says just use a relay... I plan to have a switch under the dash but I also want the parking brake to work if I get pulled over and checked which they do all the time around here. I dont really ever plan to use the DVD ability but would be nice to say I can whenever.

You can cap off the orange wire, it is not nessacary. Cut the ground wire to the same length as the rest and hook it to the Metra harness. A for the brake wire, I will get you the color of that today at work. It is located on the parking brake pedal assembly. I'll see if I can get a pic aswell.

Cool thanks Sinkhole.....

Just checked the tracking numbers. I should be getting all I need on Friday So hopefully ill be putting it on Saturday. Ill put some pics up and a review of the Headunit.

So Just double checking I should be going Dimming (OrangeWhite) to the Pioneer Lighting Wire (Orange/White)? and tape up the illumination wire (orange) Just Double checking due to what I been reading if you do this wrong it frys your dash lights.
