Dtc P0141

I got this error code a few months ago. I replaced the original O2 sensor with a Bosch. The code keeps coming back after a couple of weeks.

I am getting good solid voltage on the leads to the heater circuit, 11.88v. Sensor tests good with 7ohms across the sensor heater circuit.

Would a sticking t-stat give me this trouble? When the truck starts cold, the temp rises to 1/2 the gauge and then falls back to 1/4 where it remains while driving.

What about an aging battery?

Would switching to a Denso sensor be beneficial? What about an ac delco from the dealer?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have a colder than normal thermostat? If engine is running too cold this may cause what you are getting.

Pretty sure it's a stock calibrated stat. It is a Stant from my local auto parts. Maybe I should pick up one from the dealer.

Today I put in a new ac delco t-stat 195*. The Stant that I took out was also 195*. I'll keep my fingers crossed and update if it comes back.

New stat is acting the same as the old one. No code yet and its been 3 days.

I thought the sensors should be between 10 ohms and 30 ohms from cold to hot?

 

Also if the motor is coming up to temp then it should be fine. Do you have exhaust mods? Might be a cat going out as well.

Sounds vacuum leak. Should be on the side of the engine they O2 sensor is on.

^^^ I don't think so. It would cause other issues.

If the cat is going bad then yes it could cause and issue with the sensor. Not 100% sure on that. I would say to make sure you check and clean all the sensor connections. I would put some dialectric grease on them as well.

 

Also, don't discount a bad sensor. I have have bad sensors out of the box quite a few times, especially aftermarket units.

 

As far as the thermostat/ gauge issue. You might have an air pocket in the system causing the odd warm up or you also could have gotten a bad new one. I've had that before as well.

 

New parts are not what they used to be...

Brain mess led me..... 141 is heater..... Sorry, verify that the heat wire with a multimeter receives voltage when engine is cold(below operating temps). Did you change the connector when you changed the O2 sensor. (If you did not change verify by probing the wire as well as the plug.)

 

But I do not know which wire is you heat wire on that type sensor connector.

Original sensor and new Bosch sensor are giving me the same code. I am getting 12v on heater circuit with KOEO. Resistence on heater circuit of both sensors in range about 6ohms. Specs say between 3 and 14 ohms is good.

I did not change any connectors. I purchased the sensor with OEM connections.

Both thermostat act the same way and are both the same temp. Stant and AC Delco.

I do notice that once up to operating temp, if I accelerate hard and let of the gas, the temp will rise and then come back down. I s this indicative of air in the system?

Have you checked your fuses? Believe it or not, under the hood in the fuse block there are fuses for the O2 sensor heater circuits. I am having the same issue as you, P0141 that will not go away. I have replaced my O2 sensor twice, traced my wires, cleaned my connections, put connector enhancer on the connector for the sensor, just about everything. The only thing I haven't checked are the catalytic converters.
