What Gears Would You Recomend?

I have a 2006 crew cab with the 4.8L engine, it currently has 3.23 gears (according to RPO code GU5 in my glove box).

I plan on getting a total of 5" lift through a combination of CST and Fabtech parts. CST 4" spindle and 1" Daystar spacers in the front, 1.5" block (maybe 2") and 1.5" Fabtech add-a-leaf to the rear. I already have four Fabtech shocks on the truck.

I'm trying to emulate this persons truck that I found on the CST website, here's a link with some pictures and more info:

This truck is my daily driver, I don't do very much heavy towing or hauling (I don't even have a tow hitch on the back!) The only off road driving I do is when we go out to the desert to shoot, and that's just dirt roads the whole way.

I plan to regear and add a Tru Trac at the same time, but I was wondering what you all would recomend for a gear size???

I have not yet decided on a wheel and tire size, I'm thinking of getting either a 33" tire with 17" wheel or a 35" tire with 18" wheel. I haven't decided because I am not yet 100% sure a 35 tire would fit with out any rubbing or trimming.

thanks

I have a 4.8 that came with 3.23s. Switched to 3.73s, running 33 inch tires. Perfect! 4.10s would have been too much.

my 2001 has a 5.3l with 3.73`s and I run 35`s, definitely took away from power, 4.10`s would put me back to stock but I`ll probably go 4.56`s as I do heavy hauling, if you`re going 35`s I`d go 4.10`s if you don`t pull a trailer.

that's a tough one... on my 2003 4.8L truck with stock tires it came stock with 3.42's, I went with 3.73's and improved in town mileage (easier starts in traffic) but lost a little on the highway of course.

You are going to a bigger tire, I would say go with the 4.10's unless you are doing a lot of highway driving (60+mph).

If you are doing a lot of highway travel 3.73 will be fine and help with mileage over the 4.10's.

If you are doing a mix.... there are 3.90's available lol

either way, you are on the right track.
