How To Not Have Rear Sag

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what I could install to not have the truck start saging when I throw some weight in the back or trailer. I have a Leveling kit from rough country that I have not installed yet but that is just for the front. What do u guys do for the rear. My suspension is stock. Its a 09 Z71. I went to home depo this weekend and I had about 600lbs or so of concrete bags in the bed and the truck saged a little (I had the concrete bags center in the middle of the bed), Causing the rear to level with the front. Im afraid that when I install the leveling kit and throw weight back in the bed the rear of the truck is going to look even worse.

I put a set of helper air bags on the back of mine for when I tow or when I have bags of soybeans in the back while farming.

Mine are the Firestone Ride-Rite bags.

i spent a few weeks researching between airlift suspensions, and this website i found was the cheapest...http://www.streetsideauto.com/productlist.asp?LookupType=YMM&ParentID=8&SubID=4273&ptid=9332&utm_source=google+PPC&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=airlift%20suspension&utm_campaign=Air+Lift&mkwid=sYysgvJ63|pcrid|4590997551&gclid=CJr5ztCt8qACFZRI5wod1xkEHw

I have a set of Air Lift air bags for mine, i ran the hoses together to one valve so i didn't have to worry about getting both sides the same. easy to install and helps a lot.

The ride rites aren't lift bags. They are just helpers that keep the truck from sagging. Whenever the truck sags, you put air in the bags and bring it back up to the level it should be at.

I dont want air lift bags. I thought there were some type of U brackets that prevent it from saging.

mine are just the helper bags, you let almost all of the air out when not needed, doesn't affect the ride at all and is not bouncy when you do use them.

You have three (basic) choices:

- Air assist "bags" (e.g., Firestone)

- Spring assist (e.g., Hellwig)

- Bump stops (e.g., Timbren)

You could get some square u-bolts and put them at the end of the factory overload spring, use the bolts to pull the spring up to the main pack. No more sag.

This would be the fashion sponsered by hill-billy's, I normally wouldn't recommend it, but based on other similar mods I did this would have worked fine and been a lot cheaper.

Pieces of rubber that are attached to the axles that the truck hits on when it is loaded down. If you ride on the bump stops you'll feel every bump.

What is your adversion to bags?

They are relatively inexpensive, easy to install (can be done in about a hour and a half) and if anything they help the ride when unloaded.

what are bump stops

bump stops are pieces of rubber that prevent your axle from making contact with the frame when overloaded. Basically when you hit or are "riding" on the bump stops you have overloaded the suspension. If you are having this problem you seriously need to consider a heavier duty truck or using a properly loaded trailer because you are beyond your trucks rated payload capacity.

Are you wanting more load carrying capacity?

If not, put some bigger blocks in the back to maintain the factory rake, as this will offset the increase in the front height due to the levelling kit....
