6.2l First Oil Change

Ok guys, I am new to this forum, but am learning to like it much better than my old forum... Advice here seems to be more realistic and not just young guys wanting to bolt on the latest and greatest.

I have a ne 2010 Silverad CC with the 6.2l Aluminum block. I have never had a NEW truck and never had to worry about the initial oil change. First off I will simply use dino oil as it has served me well and believe the oil change is only as good as the filter and the filter change interval.

 

The old standard used to be to change after the first 500 miles and then at 3,000 and then 3,000 there after. I have also read, don't know if it is true, that GM breaks in the engine on a stand (briefly) then replaces the oil before placeing the engine in the truck... I have also read that there is an additive placed in the oil and that due to that you should not do the first change until the 3,000????

 

First of all I am nervous about he aluminum block and exactly when to change the oil the first time. I am not a fan of the dealer or others doing my change, but have heard the filter is REALLY on there for the first change. So does anyone have knowledge about the additive or when the first change should be?

Personally I say the earlier the better. I changed mine (2010 6.2) at 550 miles. It was rather clean. I changed my Tahoe (5.3) at about 700 miles and it was rather dirty looking as comapred to my truck. I changed both to Mobil 1 at this time. My truck is at 3800 miles and I will do the next change this weekend. I stick to the 3000 miles even with synthetic, why, peace of mind I guess you can say.

I changed mine at 500 and 1000 to synthetic..

 

I pretty much follow the Oil life meter... when it says to change, I change which has been between 6-7500 miles

That is what I wanted to hear.. I am at 768 and was planning on 1000. I couldn't bear to go with the full 3,000 or the OLM for the first one... I wanted to hear that other 6.2 owners saw their first change and relatively clean.
