ok, i see some for 130 bucks, and some for 500 bucks... What's everyone using? pros cons..... This is for an 06 Suburban 5.3 L59

Can't go wrong with K&N... used it on every truck but my 07. I'm using GM's performance intake on that. K&N uses a wet filter, and over oiling after cleaning can be an issue, so if you don't want to go that route, then AEM I believe offers a dry filter.

Another Solid true cold air intake is S&B... I've never heard a bad thing about it.

Good luck

Im running a GM Performance CAI. Gave me a little more power, throttle response, but nothing major.

CAI = good for sound; better airflow than factory; very little gain (don't let your butt dyno fool you).

No after market CAI here, just a K & N drop in filter...

buy a drop in, save your money for something else. if you want hp put the money toward a tune.

biggest improvement with a cai is gonna be your sound. then maybe little bit of throttle response. factory box/filter is prob. the best overall. its not worth spending that much cash imo. maybe if you can find a good deal on a used one, i would jump on it. but other then that, save up for something else.

I bought my GMPP CAI off Ebay for around $140. Well worth it for the bling under the hood alone. Much better sound, throttle response and some minor WOT improvement. Now after my tune it sounds and feels much much better.

Considered a wide range of them, but ultimately ended up getting the K&N stainless steel CAI. Sounds great and gets better mileage too. When you hit 5,000 RPM in 2nd gear, you can really hear it open up. No complaints at all!

GMPP here. Very happy. Got from a dealer through ebay for less than $300. Ran a KN on my 01 and was happy also except for the open intake sucking warm engine air. I prefer the true cold air intake. Looks great under hood also.

Agree with others, sound improvement but little SOTP improvement. I think with an exhaust and a tune you would see some significant improvement. I've got the stock Denali exhaust and a tune and I cannot tell the difference in the intake but it sounds better.

Keep telling yourself that, better mileage. Its not going to happen when you are hitting 5,000 rpm nor can an air filter give you better mileage when the air/fuel rate is controlled by a MAF sensor. More air = more fuel used because the air/fuel is ecm controlled.

I'll take Jenna and Justin's word for it over any speculation. They (Black Bear Performance) tested a number of air intakes a while back, and the two that came out on top in terms of HP gains, torque gains, and airflow (and potential MPG gains) were the AEM Brute Force (dry filter, FYI) and the K&N FIPK, with the AEM having a slight edge over the K&N. I'll be sticking with my AEM, thank you very much.
