Radio Question

I know this may seem a bit like comparing apples to oranges, but here goes.

I'll be ordering a 2011 truck later this year w/ the LT package.

Apparently the 2011 US info online shows the US8 radio as the radio that is available in the regular cab version:

Audio system, AM/FM stereo with MP3 compatible CD player,

seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System

(RDS), speed-compensated volume and TheftLock

On the GM of Canada website the UU1 radio is included w/ the 2010 LT package:

Audio system, AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback,

seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System

(RDS), automatic volume, TheftLock, auxiliary input jack, USB port

and 36 cross-band presets

The online pics of both of these radios show a small round jack in the lower RH corner. No sign of a USB port. Is it located elsewhere on the dash? According to the online explanation, the US8 radio doesn't have an auxiliary input jack. I have seen the trucks on the lots here w/ the small round jacks on them. Maybe I'll have to enquire about them.

Also, when they say "MP3 compatible CD player", does that just mean it will play CDs that have Mpegs copied to them?

All I'm interested in is being able to hook up my MP3 player (not an IPOD) & listen to it.

Any pics of your radios and/or feature explanation (w/ the proper RPO code) would be appreciated.

I had a MP3 adapter installed in my '04 that allows me to play thru my OEM head unit. I don't really want to shell out a couple hundred bucks to do that again on a brand new truck.

TIA

Top tier models have USB port in center console... the rest have USB port replace on of the two power outlets on dash. See pic below:

Thanks MotoMedic.

One more question.

What can be plugged into the round aux' jack? The cord that came w/ my MP3 player has a USB plug on 1 end (for the PC/laptop) & a "mini" USB plug on the other end for the player. Are there cords out there that fit this round jack to connect the player to the radio?

To be honest, I've never used mine. My understanding is it's a simple 'Line In'.. meaning you hook one end of cord to ipod/mp3 player where earbuds go, the other end to radio's Aux Port.. the ipod will play through the radio's speakers but you'll still have to control everything on ipod (as though you were only using earbuds). Here's a link to the cable but you can buy similiar cord from any place: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?s...number=88965274

I've seen several people on here investigate full ipod/mp3 compatability with OEM radio, but not sure if anyone's been successful....

If you don't have factory navigation, there IS a solution for ipod integration, the GM PAL (Personal Audio Link).

you can also use your iphone/ipod as a usb device instead of using the AUX jack. aux jack is for simple mp3players. kinda sucks becuase it does not charge the battery. aux input is simple plug n play, u prob have to go to radio shack to buy a cord tho. and if you have front bucket seats qith a center consol, the usb is located in the armrest compartment rather than on the dash shown above.

Thanks again guys. I checked the website for "The Source" (Radio Shack in Canada) & they have @ least 3 of these cords of varying lengths.

On my 2008 Tahoe I run my IPOD with the aux jack (to the right of the volume button), you have to control the IPOD to have it play. To switch songs you click on the IPOD. I had alot hooked up there, cell phones, ipod, and garmin

On my 2010 I hook it up to the USB and it works with the steering wheel controls. I also have the aux jack but I dont use it except for the first time before I figured out the USB deal (see 2nd attached).
