Headliner Soaked

I see this topic has been discussed before but I was wondering if there is any new information available concerning the leaky moonroof on the 2008 crew cab?

I have a 2008 Sierra Denali and noticed a couple months ago that there was a drop of water on the small access cover by the drivers side pillar interior panel. It was raining outside but I didn't think much of it. Then the other day we had moderate to heavy rain all day and the headliner was soaked, primarily by the left rear corner, to the point where it was dripping on the rear seat and carpet.

I took it to the dealer a few days later and they said that one of the drain tubes was plugged. They cleaned it out and called and said that the truck was ready to go. I asked about replacing the headliner and taking a look at all the other electrical components that may have been damaged by the water and they refused to replace anything else. The service manager even went as far as arguing with me saying that he didn't think the headliner even got wet! (because it took a few days to get it to the dealer it had dried out). He said that there would certainly be a dark ring from water damage and he will not replace something that is not damaged.

I read another post on this forum where the guy had the same problem and his dealer replaced the headliner, side airbag, seat belts, and anything else that was water soaked. I don't think my dealer even took the headliner out of the truck to inspect anything! He said it was a risk because nothing ever fits right after taking it apart since I have the rear entertainment system in my truck!! My headliner, rear left seat belt, floor carpet, and rear seat were completely soaked. Also, since I noticed that drop of water on the side panel the first time I would suspect that my side airbag got it as well. I have called GM customer service and am waiting for them to get back to me with a solution.

After reading about some of the other problems, I'll bet my leak is not fixed. They didn't mention a word about the service bulletin on the moonroof seal.

Any thoughts or suggestions from the field? Obviously I need a new dealer!

That could actually be a liability issue. Assuming that you dont have water rings on the headliner, you could have the electrical connections inspected for any rust and water damage. I would really take it to another dealership in the area (if you have one) and let them know exactly what the first dealership told you. Most dealership may want to charge you a "diagnostic fee" even if it is under warranty if they cannot see anything. That is what I had to do when my headliner had light water damage from the CHMSL. Dealership wanted 100.00 bucks to pull the headliner to see if the light socket had water damage. It did and they immediately refunded my money. Upon closer inspection, the dealership said that my headliner had very faint white water rings and they only saw it under a rather bright light (flashlight didnt really help). It was all warrantied and I was good to go.
