I noticed that my truck today has a falter to it once it starts, it almost acts as though it wants to stall and then it's ok, hot or cold, any ideas? thanks . ps otherwise runs fine. also is anybody changing fuel filters yet? and what size to take the filter off?  thanks again.

Yep I'd change the fuel filter-you're probably about due for it anyway.  Also maybe add some Chevron or STP Injector Cleaner with the next tank of gas.  Just a thought.

I thoughti was the only one! I just got mine back from the dealer. Mine would shutter when it starts and almost die then catch itself. and also sometimes it would take an extended amount of time to turn over. the first time i took it to them,  they cleaned the injectors and said it was fixed. but of course it wasnt. took it back a second time and they replaced the fuel pressure regulator. this fixed it. and im thinking it may have been bad for a while because the performanace of my truck increased greatly. luckily all my work was done under warranty. Just an fyi, i found out mine would do it after the truck was warm i could go back to start it up after 35 mins to 3 hours and it would stutter. but if it sat all night it wouldnt do it.

I think your right, the more I run it, that is what it acts like, what kind of price do you think since I have no warranty , to replace the regulator and have the injectors cleaned? Yes my performance is down, this thing should rip for a 6.0, did it help alot or just some? thanks .

Had my filter done at the dealer a few months back, then about 1-2 weeks after the change, the pump starts whining a bit.  Well that dealer couldn't help me out with the holiday week- ("We can't get you in until next Monday"), so rather than burn the pump out, I went to a dealer near work and they replaced the pump.  Anyway, the mileage now is unreal vs. what I had before.  Do the filter change at least along with some cleaner.

Heck J.D. to be honest i think the thing may have been defective when it left the factory ,because I never remember my truck being so peppy.especially during take-offs. i just always thought it was because I had a 4 wheel drive.

(2000 Z-71)    I could barely squeal the tires when i punched it during a turn! now i dont have a problem. and acceleration while cruising is much improved too! IM not sure what everything cost but i will try to find out what the cost was through my service adviser. I get my truck serviced at Mac Haik in Houston,Tx (i live in Katy)

i just found my service ticket it says :

cause:

"assembly leaking. J5560 regulator and/or gaskets,fuel pressure-replace." Part # 17113678

"leaking fuel regulator-replaced fuel pressure "

let me know what you do.

You live in Katy? I lived there in Cinco Ranch (in college now). Next time you need warranty work, goto "WestSide Chevrolet, Katy Freeway, Grand Parkway exit Katy" Song on tv comercial... Go see Tony. He's got to be the best service rep there is.

Good to hear Jd glad i could be of assistance! its weird since i had that problem i didnt know anybody else having the same probs. but since ive given you the info, now my buddy with a '99 z-71 has been having the same problems!   Ive been meaning to replace my filter also. i bought one like 5 months ago but havent had time to get under there!

Did you detect a noticeable increase in performance like i did?

Hey 5.3 thanks for the info. I live in Kelliwood Enclave between fry and westgreen.  I'll keep that in mind if my service tech ever leaves .i feel the same way about this guy his name is Brad Belota hes a big ole' country boy and he is the first no bullshit gm service advisor i have ever met. he doesnt try to bullshit me when i have problems he knows im a mechanically inclined person and i know waht im talking about when i have problems.Did i read that right on your sig?  Gutted out flowmasters huh? heck im still trying to get up the nuts to just get a 70 series flowmaster. your truck must be LOUD!! i have a new 4 month old so im trying to make sure there is not too much in-cab resonance.

Dumped, meaning there is no tail pipe, the exhaust is dumped out the muffler via 2 turn-downs or elbows right before the rear axle. There is very little to no in-cab resonance. And high-speeds will won't annoy you. The loadest regular driving is low rpm 1000-1700 or so under high torque conditions, ex/ driving up a hill in 4th gear doing ~40mph at 1000rpm. But theres still no resonance, just a sweet exhaust note. Do you have a reg cab or ext cab? reg cab will be loader.

Oh, I spanked the SH!T oughta a new 2-door honda accord today, was a joke!!!

i had a similar problem, my truck would stutter and stall, but only in the morning...when the truck was cold....

i am out of warranty, so i took it to a mechanic and he asked me what type of fuel i use....i told him BP, he told me that stuff is terrible...since he sells sunoco i would normally write this off as marketing, but i have heard this before...he said the etanol breaks down the fuel system, and clogs the injectors...

he told me go anywhere but BP...he hooked the truck up to the computer and i had misfires all over the place...he recommended a fuel system flush...long story short the truck runs great and i now go to sunoco for fuel....cost me like 75 bucks out the door...

he basically put some 94 octane, a half bottle of chevron, and some top-engine cleaner (gm term) into a container, disconnected the fuel line hooked this up and ran it for like 10 min....thats it..

so i got to thinking, my wifes van always idled funny and seemed sluggish, so i waited till it was just about out of fuel, added a bottle of chevron, sprayed some carb cleaner right into the gas tank, and drove to the gas station....i reved it at stop-lights, filled it with 94 octane and the van runs way better....if your gonna add chevron do it on an empty tank like the directions say....i tryed the chevron on a full tank before i took it in, and nothing...too diluted....

Yo Igbig, Yes the truck runs alot better, and it will lug tons better when towing my toys. It took them only like 10 minutes to change it, anybody can do it, he also explained how to check if it's bad, if your truck starts acting up on the hot starts, next time before you go to start, go under the hood and pull the dump line that goes onto the regulator, if any gas is coming out, or gas is seen , it is bad, ps, my mileage is alot better, post that later. ps, also changed the fuel filter. the theory on the bad reg. is that it floods the intake plenum, therefore hard starts and such.

Sounds like I have the same problem on my '99 with a 5.3.   Tell me what I need to look for.   Are you talking about a metal domed unit about the size of a 50 cent piece that is held on with a metal clip about halfway back on the left side fuel rail with a 1/8inch black plastic line plugged plugged in the top and going up under the cover over the intake manifold?   If so, when I pull this line, I get some fuel dripping out of the line.

yeah that is the part. The dealer got me 70 bucks for it, don't think there is an aftermarket yet, but this fixed all problems, if there is fuel coming out of that small line, it's bad, later JD

I talked to a neighbor yesterday that had the same problem with his Buick sedan(3800 v-6).   The same $70 part fixed it.
