What I Need To Pass California Smog?

Im rebuilding an 82' c20 Silverado with 5.7 350. Its the camper special, over 8600 GVRW, so no cats or computer. It does have an air injection pump and EGR valve and charcoal canister. Can anybody tell me what will be needed to pass smog? Can i put any carb on it I want?

I am going out on a limb, but I would venture to say that you need to find one that is approved for use in CA.

Whats the difference in the carbs approved for California???

I went to one, the guy was a jerk. He said unless i pay for an inspection he cant help me .

so ill try another one.

Prolly because the idiot didn't know.All he knows is how to run the computer.

 

This is what I did...

First make sure ALL your vacuum hoses are in good shape,any doubts replace 'em.

Then set the base timing to OEM specs(important)

Set the idle to OEM specs

Install a new air filter

Make sure the EGR valve is working and the passages in the intake are clean

I always bought 91 octane gas that one day then drove it on the freeway for a few miles to get everything warm and working.My old '77 GMC 454 always passed,even with 180,000 miles on the clock.I would venture a guess any carb would be OK as long as it was made for that year truck.

 

Smog laws change for different years so my '77 might be a little different than yours,but they should be similar.
