Son Took His 8.1 2500hd To The Strip

This weekend my son took his 02 8.1 2500HD crew cab 4wd to the local 1/8th mile track for a teen foot brake race. (Cars had to run 10.00 & slower & have parent or guardian riding with them.)

Anyway, the truck ran a best of 11.35 in two wheel drive. This was on the first pass. After that it spun his 285 Swampers past the 60ft timer, so we ran it in 4-Hi the rest of the night. Ran 11.45-11.49 consistently.

The only mods are a Bully Dog Tuner, which was set for regular fuel, all stock trans settings,& adjusted for tire size.

Anyone else run a similar truck ? Just like to know if that's pretty much the norm.

 

Oh yeah, there was an 07 D-Max there also, but not in the teen race, that ran a 7.55.

It's his. Bought in Florida a couple months ago for 4400.00.

Mine is almost identical. Crew cab & same color, except it's an 01 6.0.

Isn't running it in 4wd a bad thing on dry pavement like that.

Not really. After all, you're going in a straight line.

 

Can't imagine it being anywhere near as hard on it as rock crawling.

11.35 seconds in 1/8 mile.. so probably about 18 second 1/4 mile...

Those 8.1 are not fast by any means, with or without a tuner. I'd hope my truck would do low nines and that's still slow.

I had a 2003 8.1 with the allison trans and 3.73 gears.This is was the fastest truck I have ever had.The 6.0 could not hold a candle to it.But it was a gas hog.I had lots of fun with people they could not get over how responsive and fast it was.Now I really miss it

Drove a 2500 Suburban once with the 454, it was pretty quick and I was impressed. Was fun to mess with the ricers.

2002 2500 suburban 8.1 Lt's & Tune 15.8 @89 bouncing off the speed limiter last 300 feet or so. That's Damn fast for a 3+ton SUV. My friend's fathers and i was in it today again, that truck flies..
