First Saturn, now Mercury.... guess it goes to show that naming a car company after a planet never pays!

I just wonder what Alan Jackson is going to sing about drivin' up and down the road now?

And before anyone else says it, no we can't change the name of the Toyota Tundra to "Uranus." :flag:

Ford ditched the Mercury brand in Canada a number of years ago so I knew this was only a matter of time...

Those '49 Mercs were NICE

Finally Ford does something SMART. They should have done away with Mercury years ago Just like GM getting rid of Olds. (and Pontiac)

and how Chrysler Dumped Plymouth in 2001? THAT was a BAD Idea. but on Autoblog, it was said that Mercury had only 0.8% of the Market. so yeah, Time to put Mercury Down like Old Yeller.

I just don't see the need for every vehicle to look damn near the same with a different badge. I think it's a good thing. I say Focus on the main cars, and build them better. I'm all for that!

As more and more old farts die off I expect to see Cadilac meet the same fate in the coming years unless it changes it's image to attract a younger crowd. The China market is the only thing keeping Buick around or it would join Pontiac, Saturn Hummer & Olds where it belongs. In a grave yard. Admit it, the only reason you go into a Cadilac dealer is to choose an accesory to add to your GMC or Chevy. And the last time you found yourself shopping for a Buick was...

There will be a lot of older folks pissed off if Buick bites the dust....LOL

Mercury has been selling nothing but badge engineered Fords for years now. Their overall market share is a whopping 0.08% of Fords overall sales. Who will miss them?

I think the new Buick cars are the sharpest looking ones yet. Id consider buying one and im 22 lol

Have you seen the age of the people buying CTS' and SRXes? Or even Escalades for that matter? There are a lot more "young" folks buying these than you would think.

Again, the Buick customer base here is getting younger and younger, especially with the newer models (Enclave, LaCrosse, Regal). Honestly, I would have a Buick before I'd even think of having a Chevrolet right now.

Well you’re just a booger eating moron so what’s your point  If I were to want a car I would seriously give the Lacrosse a good look.

The funny part is the Mercury outsells LINCOLN!

If Ford really wanted to show they were serious about this whole building cars and staying alive thing, they would axe Lincoln as well. Nothing but chromed-up Fords with a severely inflated price tag.

Well, we have just sold my wifes' Buick Ranier (could have been an Envoy package). She loved the car and hated to see it go.

I am convinced GM could make it on 3 brands; Chevy (mainstream and sports cars), GMC (higher performance trucks/SUV's), Cadillac (high end cars, world-beaters).

Uhhh no, no it couldn't. A Buick Rainier was significantly different than an Envoy. Pretty much all of the body lines were different, it was full-time AWD, had a much different dash and door panels, etc.

And remember, the Rainier only came into existence because GM killed Oldsmobile. Much of the Rainier's design elements and content were carried over from the Bravada.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
