Hey guys I was thinking of getting a Molded Hood Protector #19156924 for my 2010 Silverado and was wondering if there worth the investment and how easy it is to put or take off ? thanks for any input

Worth every penny. not only protects the front of the hood but, protects the top of the hood and some times the windshield from debris kicked up from the guy in front of you.

I find (unfortunately) the bigger and uglier, the more effective.

I opted for the WeatherTech. Easy install, not too ugly.

Agreed, but the stylish ones are not an end-all solution.

My very first highway trip after install of mine resulted in small paint chip (something got kicked up) about halfway up my hood.

Doubtless, however, had I not installed it, my hood (especially the nose) would be in much worse shape.

Some years ago a car in front of me lost a rear splash guard at 50 MPH. The splash guard landed on top of my car hood and made a nasty 3 inch long scratch right in the middle of it. Similarly a piece of gravel flying from the bed of a dump truck scratched the hood of my car (different car) years later. Nothing I could have done to avoid it.

I just put a WeatherTech bug guard on my new 2010 Silverado. It was an easy installation; perhaps fifteen minutes and I was taking it sloooow, just cherishing working on my new and gorgeous truck.

As far as removing: Yup, it would take maybe four minutes. Dunno why you'd want to take it off though ... sure as heck, the next drive is when a piece of gravel would hit your hood straight-on and rip a gash right up to the windshield.

Bug guards are not pretty, but they surely protect the front of your hood from gravel.

Do you mind posting a pic of the hood with the WT guard on it? I'm thinking of getting one, just want to see what it looks like. I checked it out on WT's website, but they show pics of the guard on a Toyota, Dodge, and Ford.

Stop tailgating and that will fix the problem. The bug shield is just that a deflector and just deflects air/bugs over the windshield. The further you stay behind another vehicle the better.

I went with the gm bug shield and weather guards. Paid $130 for all from the dealer that I bought the truck at. It blends in well with the black paint.

This style has two clips that clip on to the hood roughly 3 inches off the ends. The hood is protected from the clips by two polyurethane stickers that are provided. The rest is tape that basically runs around the chrome piece at the top of the grill. You also get two clear polyurethane hood protectors that stick right on to the paint and go near the ends of the hood and sit behind the bug shield so it wont bend or flex. They kind of look like a bullet if that bullet were made of clear rubber

So when someone passes me and kicks up loose gravel, I won't get rock chips (as long as I am not tailgating)? Or the stones that fall off the dump truck 200 meters ahead of me (as the driver was too lazy to clean them off his fender) won't put a chip on my truck when we are both doing 120 kph? Right. Defiantly when one tailgates, the chance getting a rock chip increases, but not tailgating isn't going to eliminate the problem. Anyways, I'm real happy with the GM bug deflector that I have, and as my truck is black it doesn't stand out too much.

I had the windshield chipped on my car by a piece of gravel that was thrown by an 18 wheeler at least 250 ft in front of me.
