Washing My Engine After Going Off-roading?

Hey guys I am obviously a real noob here. I just need to know if it is ok to powerwash under my hood. I just dont want water affecting anything.

Adding water to all the electrical connections and sensors is not a good idea. High pressure forcing the water in.

Alot of guys wash under the hood with low water pressure. Just be careful and don't use too high of a pressure

make sure the motor is cool before you start throwing water at it, otherwise you risk thermal shock.....also i'd cover the coils,alternator and the rest of the electrical tid bits before going in there with water...

I wash mine with spray 9 and a garden hose and never have any problems.

Like they said no high pressure...I go to a wand car wash, raise hood to let engine cool and work on wheels and rest of truck. Then spray a cleaner (diluted simple green, Adams all purpose cleaner), I use the tire cleaner if cleaning the fire wall and entire engine bay. Let it sit and finish truck wash. Then rinse with the low pressure soft water rinse.

 

I cover the alternator and do not soak the ignitors/plugs/ecm...remove the cover off alternator, start and let run. Move to drying area and wipe down. The soft water rinse will not spot in areas you cannot wipe down.

 

I do this about once or twice a year. Some people do not wash engine bay but I have had no problems on the later models. I then use Adams VRT on black covers/surfaces, hoses etc...looks good and does not attract dust... http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-510-adams-a...er-vrt-kit.aspx
