Oil Change....add What Amount?

I have been change my oil in my own vehicles for along time. I have a simple questions which I'm sure there is a simple answer. When changing the oil for example in my 2010 which has the 6.2L and requires 6 qts per the manual. When adding the oil back in I put in 5 ½ qts then checked the level and on the stick it showed a little bit above the normal range on the stick. Do I go ahead and add the other ½ qtr as stated in the manual or leave it where it is. I'm really just wondering and making sure I guess...I always keep a close check on the oil level in all my vehicles. Thanks for any information you can give. God Bless

+1. Then start the engine and let it run for a couple minutes. Shut if off, let it sit for a minute and then check it. It should read right at the full mark.

Just make sure you give plenty of time (20 minutes) for the old dirty oil to drain, not a huge deal. But I let the oil drain while I check the the other fluids and grease the ball joints (only two in the front). Then button her up and pour 6 quarts down the hole and never think twice about it.

Think the shop (if you took it to one) gives a second thought?

Thanks for the info. which of course I dothe first two things. I only have 2000 miles on my truck but went ahead and changed it and put synthetic oil in it and a mobil one oil filter.

When I went and picked up the oil filter I saw they had bosch oil filters now...I've never seen them before? The guy working there tryed to talk me into getting one but since I've never saw them before I passed and keep with old reliable.

Which brings up another question. What do you all use to get the oil filter off in the new gmt900's? I really like where its at for the protection but it can be hard to get off. I went to a local auto parts store and they did not have anything except a wrench that you rap a ruber strip around the filter then attach it back to the wrench and synch it down and take it off that way. I really don't like it at all its very hard to use. Any info on that would probably make my life a little easier or at least around oil changing time ! God Bless

Thanks for the info to! I let it drain about 30 min most of the time. I do enjoy working on my truck...thats for sure! Just wish I knew more and could do more. If it want for this forum I wouldn't be able to do alot of what I can...this place and the people on here has helped me more than I can start to tell!

If your talking about the factory Blue A/C Delco filter then it was a PITA to remove. That filter wrench with the strap is your best bet. After you get that factory filter off then you shouldn't have any problems getting the rest off by hand.

I too dumped my factory oil early, at 1,3,xx and have been running syn oil since. I have 28K on here now and the engine still sounds new. I remember my last truck making more noise at this mileage running dyno oil. Enjoy the truck!

Bosch owns Purolator so Purolator makes Bosch filters.

Mobil 1 filters are made by Champion Labs who also make K&N and AC delco and around 20 other brand of filters.

I use the regular, old band-type filter wrench, which works pretty good if you give it a tune-up. Just glue a strip of sander belt around the inside of the band, and you've got a non-slip surface that will get that filter off with no trouble.

I have tried this filter tool before. It will not fit in the groove of the engine. I would recommend a 3-prongs filter wrench. It fits the groove perfectly.

Mobil 1 filters are made by Champion Labs who also make K&N and AC delco and around 20 other brand of filters.

What about Wix filters? The O'Reilly Auto Parts sales guy said they are a step above the AC Delco and a step below the K&N...

What about Wix filters? The O'Reilly Auto Parts sales guy said they are a step above the AC Delco and a step below the K&N...

Like I take advice from an O'Reilly counter guy. The O'reilly filters are now made by Fram.

yep, thats how its looking to me....

according to frams website, their Extra Guard filter(orange can of death), sizes ph8a, and ph3387A, both filter 95% @ 20 microns.

according to wix's website, their equivalent to the ph8a, the 51515 filters 95% @ 23 microns, and their ph3387a equivalent, the 51040 filters even worse at 95% @ 31 microns....

is it just me, or is that kinda.... sad?
