'09 Brake Issues

I've got an '09 1500 with the 5.3 engine. Within 10k miles I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel when braking in the mountains. As soon as I got out of the mountains it would go away. My buddy is a Chevy mechanic and I asked him about it and he said they'd had a few of the newer trucks coming in with this problem but it seemed isolated to those who drive in the mountains a lot. They turned the rotors for free. He said the next thing GM suggested is to cut away the heat shield on the front brakes but that he, personally, would put on slotted Brembo rotors. Well, I'm at 18k now and they are vibrating any time I apply the brakes. I don't drive or stop fast and my buddy knows that so it's not a problem with the way I'm driving the truck.

Anyway, I wanted to get feedback from the board to see 1) if anyone else has this issue and 2) whether slotted brakes are the way to go and, if so, 3) what I should be investigating to purchase.

I just went through a similar thing with my truck, 24k miles and the brakes shuddered when coming to stop from highway speeds and when maintaining speed going down a steep hill. I'm not really sure what the problem was but they replaced the rotors, pads and rebuilt the calipers, but I've only put about 20 miles on it since. This weekend I'm going over the mountains so come Tuesday when I get back I should have a decent answer if they solved the problem. Go to your dealer and ask them about the TSB 10-05-23-001 Induced Pulsation/Vibration it pretty much describes your and my conditions. If you follow the link it will take you to the tsb
