Intsrument Cluster Problem

2004 Silverado Z-71 with the infamous cluster problem. Everything seems to work ok when its cool out, but if I crank it after work almost nothing works. No speedo, or tach. The voltmeter almost always works, but oil pressure and water temp dont want to, and those are 2 that I really hate to not have working!

 

Would I be ok just purchasing a cluster off ebay, swapping them myself and then taking it to the dealer to transfer the miles?

 

Also, when the cluster is out, is it basically just "plug and play?"

The clusters out of any silverado 03-07 classic will be plug and play. It's an easy swap, when you buy it off ebay, sometimes they can program the mileage for you. If they don't offer that service the right dealer will do it for you. Beware though, as some bitchy dealers will get all up tight about doing something like that as they THINK it's against the law.
