Will Replacing Factory Head Unit Affect Remote Start?

Recommended Posts

Did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for. 2007 Sierra 1500 with factory remote start. I am thinking about replacing my head unit with an aftermarket system. In looking around at info on the unit, i found that adapters are required for the door chimes, warnings, etc. No big deal. I am concerned though that this will take out my factory remote start. I don't know what all is controlled through the stock radio but i do know its alot. Thanks for the help.

Will not affect it.

On a second note though, if error lights don't appear, it would be MIGHTY MIGHTY tempting to not use any adapter and have no chimes..

Can't just leave out the adapter unless you're planning to hack up the factory wiring harnesses to connect to the aftermarket HU. It's far better to use the adapter and remain mostly plug and play.

I've also got onstar. I know the adapter will allow the calls to continue so I assume this will also allow for door unlock/theft assistance?

I appreciate the help dlewis. Just one more question for ya. How dark and brand is the tint on your truck? Looks like exactly what I'm looking for as far as shade

I am also looking into replacing the stock head unit. I am down to one working speaker and the other three work when they want to  Can you pass on what unit you went with. Will the steering wheel controls still work as well?

Thanks

You are seeing an illusion: dark day and you are looking through both front windows on a white truck. My tint is the legal limit for the front in Alabama, which I believe is 35%. It does a great job but the front is lighter than the back in the full light.

I used the PAC audio OS-4 unit http://pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?P...p;CategoryID=26 because it keeps Onstar, comes with the chime box, integrates the steering wheel controls, and lets you keep the factory XM if your new head unit has an aux in via RCA cables. All this comes in one package and it was so easy to set up. I am running two alpine amps as well, and they were easy to integrate as well. It's pretty cool - my XM displays the station id, etc on the DIC now instead of the head unit.

these are pricey. you can get it for half off from crutchfield.com when you order a new head unit from them. Their catalog is messed up. You have to call and ask for the unit because their computers say (may have fixed it by now) the os-4 doesnt work. I assure you that it most certainly does. crutchfield also has a better mounting adapter kit that you get for free.

I am in the process of buying a CD/DVD touchscreen this week. Crutchfield says the "Metra's GMOS-LAN-01 GM data bus interface" is what I should use. It pops up half off, you must use this, ect. Should I call and use the one you have suggested instead?

How about the built in bluetooth feature, will the steering wheel controls work for that too? I do realize the replacement stereo will have to have BT capability.

I have installed both on these trucks and like the OS-4 much better. You should call them. The other one you listed does not have the capability to retain factory XM or BT, and you would have to purchase a seperate chime module and tap into the steering wheel wire on the column. I just told crutchfield to remove the one for the other and they gave me half off as well. The techs are really good and should know that the OS-4 works. You may need to talk to a tech and have the tech tell sales it will work. You can point out the PAC-audio site to them as well. Was really easy for me. Let me know

Yes and no.

the factory BT feature is part of the Onstar module and is retained with the OS-4. Works just like factory. The no part is that the replacement does not have to have BT if you already have the factory one. That's the beauty of the OS-4. EVERYTHING that was factory can be maintained, even rear seat audio in tahoes, etc and the fancy surround sound in the cadillacs
