2003 5.3l Exhaust

I bought a 03 1500 with 5.3l with 4.10 axle and 34" tires. Let's just say the exhaust from the cats back is ridiculously scabbed together. What size is the stock exhaust from where it bolts to the cross pipe back? I am after all the power and torque I can get from this which I hope will help some in the fuel mileage area too. Is it better to use 3" back or 2 1/2" back? I thought I read that it is 2 3/4" back. Is that right? So that's why I ask for a 3" or 2 1/2" single. I don't want duals. Is one too much back pressure and is the other not enough? Also I hate stupid loud and the drone they get from some mufflers. There sure seems to be a lot of sharp people on here so I'm sure I'll get all sorts of info. Thanks.

Stock should have been 2.75. Why not just go back with the stock size and be done with it?
