Rattling Sound When Accelerating?

Been a noise I've been hearing for some time and it comes and goes.. It's a rattling or ticking sound I sometimes get when accelerating. It seems to happen more after the truck has warmed up? The noise doesn't seem to come from the engine compartment but more from underneath the truck, like the exhaust.. Any ideas before I bring it in? I once had a '88 Pontiac 6000 years ago that had a similar sound and it turned out to be a small hole in the exhaust manifold. What gets me is how it comes and goes??? Any other ideas what it could be guys? It's a '06 GM Sierra SLE Z71 5.3L 57,000 km's. Very much appreciated..

Just a guess here but you may want to check your pulley system. Check the idler pulley bearing, water pump bearing, AC, Etc....

Check the heat shields on your exhaust system as they do rattle sometimes just bang or hit them around a little to tweak them. Metal expands when hot so thats most likely your noise.

My 2500 has a smaller insert in the larger receiver to use 2 different sized hitches - it took me months to figure out that the rattle wasn't my CMS.

My '00 had an issue like that. It seemed pressing on the exhaust made it go away. Not sure if it was something loose in one of the cats or a shield. Mine was only noticeable at idle or very light load.

Catalytic converters rattle when the honey comb like material breaks.... I have seen BUNCH do that (replaced a couple for this and SOLD a bunch of converters for this purpose)..... And they rattle warm and do not rattle when cold.... They become clogged/plugged and the pressure breaks the material and allows the exhaust to exit......

 

This is an ANY MAKE, ANY MODEL problem....... So long as it has a catalytic converter......

 

Get the truck warm and put it in park and put the emergency brake down. Lay down beside the truck and have somebody to rev the engine up and down... You should hear the noise more prevalent outside.... It should be coming from behind the front tires around the transmission.

I had a converter let go on my 06 5.3.

I had a similar noise and i replaced my cats with highflow and it was still there it ended up being and oxygen sensor was rattling.

So glad this is here, this just started happening with me! My husband is going to help me check it early tomorrow morning before the molten lava heat starts coming back down from the sky LOL
